If you want to travel to Melbourne i go a unimig 240 full digital welder for sale comes with a new 9kg gas spool and gauges (new gauge and 9kg as supplied when new) and a 5kg gasless (about 3-4kg left on it)
only used it for about 1-2 kg wort of wire, (welded 2 holes in a floor)
i brought it 4 years ago as my tax was killing me

if you only plane on ark/tig cig have one for 350+ tig leads, i got mine with gauges,tig/ark leads for $450 from total tools but it only does mild and s/s if you want to do alloy you'll need a dc inverted and they start at 750-800 for the cig the 3-1 does it all from memory but not the $1000 one you need the $1200 cig one tig i my opinion is a nicer and stronger weld then mig on thin steal and if done right can be left for all to see

Cheers John, and thankx once again for your input..one of the main reasons i'm keen on TIG is it's very similar to oxy ( which i have a lot of experience with ) but better high instant concentrated heat..which is perfect for car panels, plus the added bonus of thicker metal welding.... it's something i havent used before, but very similar concept and technique as oxy so a few slight changes and leanring and i should be well on my way

if you can oxy weld well you will pick up tig with ease, its all it the feed, anyone can but weld with no filler, but not everyone can feed and weld
one thing i can suggest if you do want to practice is get so alloy and practice on that as you can run weld after weld without cleaning or re prepping, all other steals need to be prepared more or cleaned after welding

I have a similar mig to the one you just got. A great little welder for the shed . I've had it about eight years and no probs except having to relace the feeder liner from running old rusty wire through it . Cost about $20 .Great backup and service from where I bought it ( State of the arc ) at Capalaba . No affiliation. It will weld pin holes in the floor with almost no grinding to six mm plate no probs. Once you get used to It I'm sure you will wish you'd got one sooner. And as everyone says, stay away from the Italion stuff cause my first mig was Italion and nothing but Trouble with a capitol T. Brad.

Cheers Brad for your reply, the only thing i need is the back nut and lock nut washer for the spool...it came with a bare spool spindle ( no nut or washer...anything )
i purchased a 5kg spool holder...got the welder, including full gas bottle, trolley, full 5kg wire spool and a mask for $380.00 i thought that was a good price ( ?? ), it hasn't had a sit on the shelf life, but is still in good working order and i'm sure has plenty of life left in it yet
i've found it a bit hard to get the lock washer, I think it also has a spring and washer along with the back nut ( maybe wing nut ) that goes with the spool tension set up. The Lincoln supplier who i got the 5kg spool holder from had no info on the washer and nut set up. I did find a parts break down on this model and it looks like these are the washers and nut needed...any more info or confirmation would be great ( maybe even a pic of the set up would be gr8 )
maybe i should contact State of the arc and see what they can do... but a pic says a lot more than words can say
thankx again

Using a 5kg spool you need to offset as you allready know. there is no spring use a lid off a paint can and cut a hole in it and slide it on.

They get revenue from the vendors for clicks on their product links. If we down rate the post does it leave the thread intact?

If a post gets to -5, it disappears.
This post was reported to me, but since it appeared to be reasonably on-topic and not posted all over the forum like a lot of the sunglasses/shoes/porn etc spammers that get through, I felt it was OK. If you guys feel different, downvote it.
