I was told you can't shorten a power steer rack to use in an FC. Was told by a local bloke you can now. Confused as hell. Has it been mastered now? I have a VT power steer rack sitting here and would like to use it. JB thats on a pat gardener front end the pivot points are different for a hr front end otherwise using a stock width VS rack (in the centre) you will get bump steer..

Yep true, something I haven't ever stuffed with, just trusted the guys that are meant to know... Got burnt the first time in Castlemaine, so went to V6conversions the second time.

Going to put in a manual steer rack, from what I have heard power steer is over the top for the weight of an FC.
Just have to find one in good nick that doesn't cost the earth.....(dam financial officer!) And I will patiently wait for the right one if I have too.

Actually a mate suggested using a manual barina or astra rack. Any one know if these would be a suitable steering option rather than paying someone 500 big ones to shorten one?

nes138 talk to Pat at V6 conversions his manual racks are good units and I don't think they cost the earth (been a while since I bought mine true  ) Everyone I have read on here that talks about Pats units says that you get the best turning circle etc. Just thought I would stick my 2 bobs worth in  Regards Neil |

I have tried Pat Gardner and can't get a reply via phone or email.
I think the bloke is under water or something. Any way I have decided a manual steer rack from early commodore and have found a bloke here that will shorten.

NES the V6 conversion racks are also early commodore I can't remember I think VB or VH so you are on the right track.
I had also found Pat a little hard to get a hold of but I left a message and eventually he got back to me.

my mate fb steve(with an ek)haha,
got his rack shortened for power steer (chopped em got welder round the corner to tig em up with chromoly rod)
.i wondered why ?
cause mine is so easy to turn with same rack,
but i got standard steering wheel with 205/70/14s.
he's runnin small steering wheel with commo 17s,
with wide tyres (not sure).
im just saying be careful if ya runnin stockish wheels hey.
it could be too light
has anyone had these issues???

Stock 15's from commodore going on. Defnately using manual rack.
Eventually want to run B45 simmons 15's commodore stud pattern (if anyone has em cheap) but rims will be after money for engine conversion......
