Wiring a new fuese box

Hello All,

I have a fe and wanting to fit a fue box. At the moment thinking of putting the battery in back tray with mains going down the passenger side up to the glove box and then to a fuse box. Then run another fuse box off the ignition for stereo, amps, dizzy, thermo fan etc. Wanting idea of where people have installed fuse boxes.

hope I have not scared anyone off by this topic but I am interested in experiences in upgrading the wiring and installing a fuse box. My wiring is ok but I am fitting a new stereo and gauges and though what the hell lets improve the bad inline fuses which are needing some tlc after many a year of good service.

There are a couple of ways to add in extra circuits eg:

- use the screw contacts on the ignition switch to attach cables to power your extra gear because there is switched +ve and constant +ve 12v available there.This is good for low current use gear and not too many extras! or

-buy a complete wiring kit which will usually have a fuse panel for as many circuits as you will need, plus colour coded wiring (better still wiring marked every few cms), an instruction book plus a circuit tester.

Whatever you do make sure all circuits have a good earth back to bare metal and it is wise to test each circuit using a battery charger before connecting to a powered fuse panel because the charger should have a failsafe cicrcuit to detect any shorts (so if you wire it wrong it won't work but will save all your fuses!)
