I received an emaiol this morning (time-stamped 4:30am) titled "fefcholden.org.au mailing list memberships reminder" with the following text:

"This is a reminder, sent out once a month, about your fefcholden.org.au mailing list memberships.  It includes your subscription info and how to use it to change it or unsubscribe from a list.

You can visit the URLs to change your membership status or configuration, including unsubscribing, setting digest-style delivery or disabling delivery altogether (e.g., for a vacation), and so on.

In addition to the URL interfaces, you can also use email to make such changes.  For more info, send a message to the '-request' address of the list (for example, mailman-request@fefcholden.org.au) containing just the word 'help' in the message body, and an email message will be sent to you with instructions.

If you have questions, problems, comments, etc, send them to mailman-owner@fefcholden.org.au.  Thanks! "

This seems like a scam to me.

Can RET or Stinky tell us if this is genuine, and if not, maybe broadcast a LOUD warning to members.

Until we get clarifiaction, I recommend members LEAVE THIS EMAIL ALONE.

Thanks.

I received it too and was wondering if it may be something to do with the recent changeover.  As you say, clarification would be good.  Thanks

As I understand it was the mailing list for updates for the 13th Nats, the New Year must have triggered at mail-out  Undecided
RET will have the difinitive answer of course, but it is harmless.

Stinky is exactly correct, it was the regular reminder of mailing list membership, and probably came from the new server (which isn't yet in production, btw.)

It is completely harmless, but I'll probably delete the mailing list now. It's served its purpose.

OK, it's now disabled.

However, all clubs should be aware that the functionality exists on our server to run a mailing list. The NSW Club use it, it seems a shame no-one else does.

It's a hell of a lot easier than passing lists of email addresses around the committee, that's for sure.

Hi RET,

I didn't know it existed, but it would possibly be a good tool for the nationals committees.

Regards
