Hi All, Well it’s about time I posted some pics of my1959 FC special sedan. I'm not sure if there is such thing as a 'rolling rebuild' but that best describes what I'm dong. Driving the car as much as possible while slowly rebuilding/replacing bits. I bought the car from an nice young couple in Sydney about five years ago and prior to them only two other owners. The original owner (Bill) loved the car and looked after it well as did the other owners so it was in reasonably good condition. Minimal rust, good books and receipts and strong motor. Progress is slow but it means I get to drive I’ll start with a picture taken while driving from Sydney to Canberra. Most of the work to date has been mechanical, including new clutch, misc bushes and cables, king pins, wheel bearings, break overhaul and a stack of other little jobs. Flywheel Under the hood Interior touch-up Rust was cut from the floor so I gave it a quick once over with the wire brush and painted with killrust. The only other rust was in the boot rubber channel and rear 1/4s Some pics before paying attention to the bodywork & exterior. I'll get some more pics up soon.

And a few more pics to the story. I heard of a wreck just near Yass. Found a few bits. Then went overseas for a year. Stopped into Graceland and checked out some of the cars Elvis owned. Than came back to OZ in '08 and got married. I hoped to have the car at least painted by the weddingbut time beat me. We didn't care it still played it's part. My fathers '59 Chrysler AP2, Richards FC (great bloke, great car) and my FC. Then started back on repairs. Any known rust was removed and minor dents fixed. Cheers, Phil

G'day,
It would be cool if you could put the numbers of the paint on for me as there are a few of us doing black cars at the moment. Looks great.
Cheers
Deano.

Hi Deano (and Ken might be interested too). Here are the numbers. Hi Ken and others number crunches Here are the numbers for my fC. Body: FC-225-29844-S Trim: 4-627 Paint: 253-6258 Chassis: FC-51555-S Engine: L589074 If the above are all correct my car is an FC Special Sedan, the 29,844th manufactured in Sydney, NSW. The vehicle was assembled during 1959, and was the 50,555th FC (in any bodystyle) assembled in Sydney. Manufacture date (based on engine number) is July 1959. The Exterior Trim Code (4) describes this car as Single-Tone: Black. The Interior Trim Code (627) refers to: Fall Red & Black. The paint colour is Black (Hi Gloss) (in DUCO Lacquer). Cheers, Phil

Then it was time to start prep for paint. Off with the rest of the trim. And tackle the old door rubbers. Some were part rubber part black silicone. The Dremel helped keep the rear 1/4 badge pins in tact by carefully cutting the clip. Although saving the badge pins, I then had to search and search for replacement retaining clips. Cheers, Phil

I then drove the partially naked FC down to Moruya on the south coast where the remaining body work would be done and paint applied. Short stop and Bungendore. Arrived at Moruya Paint and Panel. All the guys in the workshop were looking forward to this job and within an hour, they had started. Cheers for now. Phil

Hi Philby,
The car should look great with a new coat of paint, you're lucky to have had such a good starting point.
Dean.

Thanks Dean. Yeah I was lucky. When I bought the car I though there would be more work required, but the car has been well looked after its entire life. Here are a few pics as it progressed through the painting process.

Phil - you are a cruel teaser. At this rate the end product won't be posted for weeks. I have seen it and for everyone having to follow the slow posts - the wait is worth it. I too can tease - look at this shine/reflection. Guess whose door this is? Looks good Phil. Cheers David
