I have a question,the timber insert in the back of the ute,did they all go through to the bulk head,cause my ute a 1957 build the timber floor does'nt go right up to the bulk head heres a couple of photos the first is mine and the next is also an fe and the last photo is an fc.  . Hope someone can shed some light on this. Cheers Deano. |

This is a very strange difference - there is no description in the parts book regarding when the floors were changed. The pics in the service bulletins all show a ute with full floor wood insert like your second photo. But I have seen utes and vans with the shorter floor. I can't really offer much assistance - maybe the full length floor was the original equipment and it was superseded after the utes displayed some body weaknesses. Possibly late in the FE series.
Maybe some input from ute owners would be helpful - especially FC ute owners - Do you have a full length floor?

Might the short one be a wagon floor? - there looks to be a join at the front corner on both sides.
Did vans use rear part of the wagon floor? Its the only explanation I can think of.

Sure it has not been replaced looks very clean get a mirror and see if it has been welded in there?  ? Might have been friday arvo just slap it in there boys wagon ute who cares. |

I have an FE Ute, body number 405 and it has the full length floor. I also have an 59 FC ute and it has a full length floor.

HMMMMM  ? Had a good look under the floor today and side rails for the timber floor dont continue through,they stop at the metal floor,it looks to me that it was built that way. I'm sure all will be revealed one day,just a bit of a pain to get under there to clean and paint. Cheers Deano |

Could have added value you could list it on e bay as a rare one of a kind NOS short floor kit fitted.  How earlly of an FE is it does anyone else on here have a earlly model to compare?? |

Just to shed a bit more light on the floor issue,the short floor was welded in voer the top of the original floor,including the timber insert. Well it looks normal now,and its still pleasing as under all that mud i took out(about 30kg of the stuff)it all looks pretty good heres some shots i took this after noon.   Cheers Deano |
