So I've found out FB and above leaf springs are slightly wider than the FC. What would the preference be if the FC was turned on the rotisserie and an opportunity arose to fit different leaf springs and welding brackets etc. I am using a Commodore LSD. So needs to be modified anyway. Keeping the grey! The option of Coil springs and Air bags has been discounted on price only, obviously the choice if money was not a consideration.

Option 1 Keep the existing leaf springs
Option 2 Beef up the existing springs with an additional leaf and some kind of "Helper" system (Note Ironman does not fit the narrow FC Leaf)
Option 3 Because of ease of access, update to a later model leaf spring and weld new brackets etc. If yes what is the choice of leaf??

I guess a debate is certainly called for and offcourse happy to hear all sides.

Regards

Wayne

the original leaf springs are capable  of being rebuilt  re tensioned leaves added or subtracted my thought is unless your radically modifying / changing the car dont try and reinvent the wheel. the leaf spring rear end works well. radius rods could be added or the old cheapo slapper bars could be considered . whatever you do have fun with it just my two cents worth what would i know im just an electrician just dont over complicate  a possibly simple problem hope this helps .im so full of advise after a couple of bourbons

Simon after a couple of beers and a few reds to chase I'm hearing you. Have not had a bourban for years.

Maybe some others have a different view.

I have fitted a shortened commy rear end and have had the standard rear leaf springs retensioned and an extra leaf fitted. I would imagine fitting wider springs would be a lot of work for little gain considering the width of the chassis rail would make wider hangers difficult. Cheers, Jack

If coil springs are out (which would be far superior) - leave the FC hangers as they are and just beef up the springs. Especially if you're keeping the grey.  I wouldn't even bother with the Commodore LSD if I was running a grey.

Just put in some wagon springs (extra leaf), no messing about.

Cheers

If you haven't grown up by 50, you don't have to.

G'day Wayne, when you get your springs re-coed you can ask them to throw an extra leaf in and set them at whatever height you want.
