Rear spring rubbers

Hi All,

I went to fit new (after market) rear spring hanger rubbers today, problem - placed the rubbers in the spring holes & the rubbers are about 8mm -5/16" wider than the springs. Question do I cut equal lengths of each rubber, or try to force them in the hanger opening.
I am sure someone has had the same problem.

My new rubbers were also a little wider than the springs. When I fitted them I had to use a G clamp across the hanger sides to to compress them until I could get the nuts started.  They compressed nicely.

Andy, I think they make them wider so they will fit the later model springs FB-EK etc, just cut a bit of each so that they fit up to the shoulder on the rubbers

Hi Andy.  I did not know you had problems with the front ones as well.  This may be too late but here goes.  On Wednesday I was faced with the same problem on the front rubbers and I could see not see any way to fit the rubbers in the hanger when they were in the spring.  I crawled underneath to have a look and then the penny dropped.  Put the outer rubber into the spring then hold the spring in the correct position.  Then from the inner side of the hanger put the other rubber through the large hole into the spring, put the bolt through the assembly and tighten up the nut.  The rubbers compress nicely without any cutting.

before I attacked the rubbers I sat down and read the trusty old workshop manual, and as in your reply the manual stats the same procedure.

Might have to read the manual more often I think.

Well Bugger Me...

I had always fitted the new bushes by sqeezing them together and with plenty of rubber grease pushed the spring eyes to line up with the bolt hole.... Learn something new every day Thanks for posting, Andy.

I too might have to dust off the old workshop manual and have a read
