Not sure if this is the right section to post this, but......
I am looking for a trailer made out of the rear cut of an FE FC ute, I have seen a few floating round on here but if anyone has one and does not need it any more I am looking.
Alternatively if anyone has a rear cut from a ute they do not need, I can make one from I would also consider that.
Location not that important I am happy to travel

I've got a rear cut but in Sydney.
was going to make a trailer, then a lounge, then... never got around to it.
ive cut it down the sides but not across the frame rails in prep for a lounge..
could weld it back together no dramas.
I could build it to a rolling rego-able unit.

After getting some other jobs finished off, and after storing the ute cut for about 5 years, I can finally make a start. Here is a pic of my Dad looking very happy at the prospect of the ute leaving his shed... Why does he always look so happy when I move my stuff?  |

After much thought... I decided that a good looking ute trailer needs good proportion. With the wheel centred in the body, the tub rail needs to be moved forward to the existing door jamb. This is pretty much perfect. The bonus is better looks, longer load area (6 foot) and better weight bias for improved towing... a good thing considering it's a trailer. so out came the grinder and I moved the rail roughly to it's new position. A few more cuts and it can go further another 2 inches to tidy up the forward section. Cheers Ed   looking better already.  |

yeah I've noticed that Fat, it's got an HR diff at the moment which is going to be changed out for a trailer axle.. I haven't given it a whole lot of thought otherwise. I did manage to find some 2 inch lowering blocks though.. so I may need to fab up some plates and get some long u bolts.
I need to do something soon, as the draw bar will need to be set up at the right height.

I started to make some filler pieces after the tub rail was moved forward 7.5 inches. much better proportion. just tacked in for now... Im about to cut the jambs out so this rail will help prevent the body from flopping about otherwise. Cant wait for my new plasma cutter to arrive. Cheers Ed   |

Hello, just a little update on the trailer build. blanked off the spare wheel door, got a plasma cutter and started to cut things up.  the jambs were cut off and the front end is being tidied up in preparation for a new front wall.  the subframe legs were rusty, so they were chopped off and a frame can now be made. So i got a little busy and added a drawbar to the trailer. the original subframe legs were cut out due to rust and the frame welded to the legs. An additional cross member will be placed at the front leading edge, and welded to the inner sill which has had a plate stitched on for strength. Cheers Ed     |

Thanks Wayne, I fitted the front x-member (I suppose it's called) and it gives me a mount for the front sheet and the draw bar is solid. the x-member is only 2.0mm wall thickness so it's adequate but not overly heavy. The underfloor area will be sheeted up and provide a good lockable area once complete. CHeers Ed   Cheers Ed |

Gary, thanks, it's required a lot more thought than I originally anticipated too! the trailer is being built for "earlyholdenfan", I'm sure he wont mind if I trailer it down to a club meeting after it's done. Progress: started sheeting up the front side. Will need some bracing behind it to stop the panel from flexing. the top rail was damaged and rusty. It was cut out, a piece of SHS bent to shape and welded in to regather strength. The panel will now be laid over the top and joined to the top panel in a similar fashion to the sides.   Cheers Ed |

Gary, Funny you mention that, I was thinking a "continental kit" on that front wall would be nice. Ive built a wheel carrier for a 4WD trailer before and could do similar but with the structure behind the wall. Being a trailer I have been careful not to build too much weight into it. One of my key design criteria was to keep it light. so far so good. pic of 4WD wheel carrier on a drawbar mount... adjustable for different wheel sizes... looking at it now I should have added a gusset behind it. it was fish plated though.
