I was after opinions and experiences with 5 speeds behind "healthy" red sixes, the Traumatic was meant for another purpose and any reasonable trips mean the car is revving at 3000+ to keep at a highway speed.
I'd like to keep the bench seat and unmodified if possible.

I ran a supra 5 speed behind a healthy tunnel rammed windsor in a Model A Hiboy for years, gave it plenty and it didn't let me down.
Wish I could say the same about the clutch Sad

hi stinky, cant really comment too much on the performance of the 5 speed, till i get to drive it again Roll Eyes
but for the 3 days i did drive bubbles before the rebuild it was fine 278 diff ratio, 15 inch wheels and if the tacho was correct i think i was on about 1400rpm at around 100kph,basically idiling Wink
they are quite a tough box from what ive heard and a couple of guys have them behind 8's without dramas ( the supras themselves used to pump out a few ponies)
the only issue i have is that if you want to retain the bench the seat will need a small cutout ( as you know) and the standard shifter is a little low to be reached comfortably. i will be making an extension for the shifter/ shaft to bring it higher and easier to reach.
but i have also heard of different boxes having different shifter locations.
you may want to ask some of the ricers if this is true?

i know of a good trimmer who can help out with the mods Grin Grin Grin

I will take a photo tommorow of my old 5 speed shifter i just cut it an inch above wher it comes out of the box then went straight forward 4 or 5 inches then curved it up and around the seat so i did not have to do the silly cut out thing.

A mate of mine informed me that new parts for older Supra five speeds are difficult to source at the moment.

I'm not sure how much truth there is to this, and admittedly I haven't researched it any further in order to validate his statement.

I'm leaning towards a Tremec TKO when I upgrade to a 5 speed in the near future.

Cheers,
