Guy's
Could any one that is running a Celica box tell me if they are using the toyota  rear rubber mount or a modified Holden one.

I am using the Celica one and it seems to be to soft, it tends to cause a bit of rabbit hopping when traveling slow in low gear.

Any help would be appreciated   Smiley

Thanks,
Steve

i am pretty sure mine is the toyota one, but it isn't soft....

maybe your clutch is slipping? in the ej i used to drive, the driveline would shudder when i was trying to get going from a standing start because it was worn down to the rivets on the plate...

Digger, One of my early cars had a C 5 spd and I am quite sure it had the stock C rear mount on a custom built rear bracket.
I never had any shudder problems at all but have certainly experienced the shudder you talk about on a red motor with Aus 4 spd - as Gree suggests, I had a worn clutch.

Thank's guy's

But the clutch and press/plate are brand new, the fly-wheel has been machined and a new tailshaft and uni's. Its not a clutch shudder that I'm experiencing its more as if the rear of the gear box starts bouncing and then causes it to rabbit hop, it mainly happens when idling along in low gear but if you ride the clutch a little and come off idle say 800 or 900RPM it dosen't doo it.

I did talk to a guy at the All Holden Day today he was saying he had simular brobs with his car (HR) and that there are two types of mounts one is all rubber (soft compound) as I have and one off an earlier model Celica that has a limiting bolt through the center which he used and stop the problem.
Thank's for your replies, might take his advice and try the mount with the limiting bolt.

Hey Steve I was watching this one unfold but I should have put my 5c worth in .
My suggestion would be that you have contamination on the fly-wheel .
A leaking rear main seal will allow oil to get into the clutch area which stops the friction and causes the clutch plate to bounce ,Happened to me a while back.
I dont think the mount will bounce as the pressure is all from one direction not alternating to cause a bounce or throwback.
Maybe when assembling you got something on the fly-wheel if you can remember or possibly the clutch plate was already contaminated.
Let us know as you sort this one out ,Hope it helps cheers.

Harko,
It dose help, I know that the rear seal is ok checked it when I had the flywheel off.
But I did have a hic up with the slave cylinder the mounting bracket broke in half and sprayed clutch fluid all over the bell housing and I dont have a rubber dust boot over the clutch fork and of course the fluid did get in the bell housing, maybe it has contaminated the clutch plate.
I'll drop the inspection plate and have a look.

Thanks

G'day,

I am running 5 C in my FC Ute. I put a chassis kit through it and the rear mount ties in to to that. Could be your problem is oil on the flywheel? I also put an electronic distrib and bigger coil. The bottom end was re worked and blanced, mild cam , stainless stell Pacemaker headers and exhaust. Now need to allow it to breath and not shore which was to go? Currently it has a WW Strom on it but needs more air and fuel, any ideas??

Hey Harko,

Pulled back the gear box Tuesday and unbolted the press plate found nothing wrong, every thing clean as a whistle a bit of clutch fluid on one side of bellhousing and thats all.
But the embarrassing part I did find (Stupid me), after I had bolted it back together I was laying under car looking for anything that could be wrong and found the right-hand side u-bolts on the diff weren't in too good a shape one had broken (lost inch of thread and nut) and the other loose.
I think this is my problem.  Embarrassed  Embarrassed

I still have my money on that brake fluid soaked into the clutch plate ,Brake fluid is full of silicone which is an anti friction material and also clear  Sad
But I have my fingers crossed that it is the u bolts .  Wink

We fitted a C 5 spd to EH and we used stock Celica mount.

hopping may be a uni joint problem.

Thank's Ed

I have checked the uni's and they are ok, the uni's and tail shaft are only about 100ks old.

Gents,

The car is fixed, it was the U-bolts on the diff that caused the problem. The problem could have been there when I had the trawmatic in the car but did not notice it.
Thanks very much for your help and advice.  Grin
