I have a pair of hr seats that i always planned to use in the FC, are these a good fit or are their other low back buckets that fit better and maybe not so bulky ?

I've used VH Commodore buckets, pop out the headrests and they are similar size to HD/HR buckets but are a lot more comfortable. Helped a mate mount some into his HD ute to give the interior a Premier look.He even had them retrimmed with the buttons as per Premier seats and they looked like they were factory fitted. Cool

Good idea, my seats will need to be re covered and new padding but since i already have them  may as well try them for size - i'm still not sure of headrests V no headrests, not that it will see a lot of miles.

Generally speaking engineering will require headrests so I would use the Commodore seats - the headrests can be taken out later if you so desire.

Commodore buckets - headrests removed - retrimmed - no engineer required (this is in Tassie)

If you haven't grown up by 50, you don't have to.

I fitted a set of HR prem.seats to an FC wagon a long time ago and i seem to remember them being pretty wide and only just squeezing in between the pillars, the commodore seats are a much better fit and don't look out of place especially when re-upholstered in the original style and colour.

Since FCOV6 is in Melb, I have given him advice which Victorian engineers have been known to push. That is that headrests form part of and ADR and if seats are updated then the headrest must be included.
Once again I will stress that you should talk to your engineer if you are going down the path of having your car certified, before you outlay cash & time.
Not all engineers enforce it and it doesn't apply in all states. It was enforced on a vehicle we built at Hoppers Stoppers a while back.

Weddo the commo seats look good and seem to fit well , strange to need headrests if the car was never fitted with them originally - cant see EH-HR owners needing to replace their seats with later models with headrests. I will check though just in case, could always use commo seats and remove the headrests later.
 Thanks for the input guys.

Like all ADR's if you change what's there originally to something later, then it has to comply. So if your car had low back bucket seats originally then they are fine. But FC's never had bucket seats.

I understand the need for high back buckets to satisfy safety regs, its something i'll need to look into before i choose the seats i'll use.

Just found this on the Vicroads site  in regards to replacement seats not originally offered by the manufacturer , in the case of buckets you could take it as the inner mounts must be at least equivalent to the original outer mounts -

For vehicles manufactured before 1969 the seat anchorages must be of at least equivalent strength to the original anchorages. A VASS member should be consulted if there is any doubt regarding the strength of the anchorage or any part of the seat installation.
