The last NSW historic race meet for the year is on next weekend at Eastern Creek.

Scanning the entrant list, amoung Group NB Touring Cars, over 1600cc, I came across an EH Holden, blue/black #183 entered by a fellow by the name of Colin. Anyone heard of him?  Wink

I'll be taking out the Group C Commodore. Hopefully this time the oil will stay in the engine, the car on the track and the flare on the guard...

I'm on strict instructions to bring it back in one piece - as it's on display at Homebush the following weekend

Here is a link to the HSRCA site for full details.

As Mike Raymond used to say, "BE THERRRRRE..."

Funny, Eddie, Funny. We'll be there Friday so that I can run around & get used to the track. I haven't seen the entrant list yet, thanks for the link.

Hopefully we'll get time to catch up.

Colin.

Hi Colt
I saw you on Friday morning around 9.15 on Cowpasture Rd near all the road works heading to the track I was the one that flashed the lights at you in the Commodore. The car looks good.

I bet he's glad that's all you flashed at him.

Have a good weekend of racing Col - watch out for corners on the track.  There might be some that you need to get around.

Cheers

Thanks for the movie, Craig. That's brilliant! The guy in the HQ is a racer with years of experience, the HQ is a genuine HQ series car, single carbie on a 173. I'll be removing my rear sway bar now, I just could not get the power down early enough.

In the shots down the straight, I'm just touching 120 mph, nudging 6000 revs. Because of the problem getting power down, I could'nt go through the turn at the top of the straight under full power, which affected my speed down the straight. My mate who helps me has his car off the speedo down here.

I'm so pissed that I could'nt get past a Morris Minor (it is a highly modified car which normally does not run in this class) and that Mini.

Colin.

PS: this is the MOST fun you can have.

PSS: sorry, Wayne. I missed your flash.

Ed, overall I improved, but slower than the others. 2m 08 in practice, 2m 10 on saturday in 40 deg heat. A lot of cars didn't make it. 2m 05 on Sunday. I'm about 5-6 secs off the pace as yet for comparable cars.

Fast Eddie, how did you pull up? Your car sounds awesome. It was a real pleasure to see it going around.

Thanks Col, I had a good weekend, apart from some problems with the gear linkages binding up.

Here is a link to the race where I was dicing with the VL for a few laps.

I also enjoyed watching you hang the tail of that EH out around 4 - 5 and off corporate hill. Classic stuff.

Cool bit of footage.
The ol' VH looked to have similar pace to the VL.
It looked like you were starting to get the upper hand in your little duel.
Thanks for sharing that with us.

It was great fun being out there. The VL has about 100 more hp which you can see down the straight and out of turn 9 (the hairpin), On the other hand the VH has got 10"x16" rims with serious rubber, so can make up time around the back.

As you may determine from the footage, I have some gearbox/diff ratio issues to sort out. It's a four speed and I was having to use 1st gear on turn 2 and 9.

Finally, the VL was a bit tentative through turn 1 in this race. Here's why:

Race 1, lap 1:

Good stuff Ed, you certainly do have some gear ratio issues Tongue

Turn 1, Eastern Creek - scary corner if it goes pear shaped.....

John, turn 1 is scary if it DOESN'T go pear shaped. When I got up to speed, I was going through between 90-100 mph, no brakes before the corner, just balancing on the throttle. The corner never ends, it just keeps on going. When the corner finishes, you're on it flat for the short straight up to corner 2.
Great stuff!

Colin.
