Hello all,

Something that I have been thinking about for the last year or so is the fitting of a 6 speed gearbox (say a T56, or Supra box) to a Holden Red/Blue/Black 6 in an early Holden - more specifically, my FC powered by a triple-webered 202. I know a 5 speed Supra box is more user friendly, but I like the thought of something different. Has anyone heard of this being done before? Mal Wood has kits to suit Chrysler (Charger) and Ford (Falcon) six cylinder applications, but not Holden six.

Apart from the bulk of the box and possibly handbrake allocation (and the cost  Undecided) can anyone foresee any dramas with adapting one to suit a red 6 in an FC?

Any takers?

I know this is an odd question - why would anyone stick a six speed behind a holden 6 when there are kits to bolt up 5 speeds - but I am keen to know.

I am in the very early stages of a slow resto on my FC and I am toying with the six speed idea. I am guessing that the shifter position may be of concern. I am running Nissan EXA bucket seats (probably to be replaced Isuzu Bellet buckets) and have a floor mounted 4-speed and hand brake.

Josh,

great idea, but a bit of work required.

you will need to make an adaptor to fit it to the red block with a starter motor, clutch fork and slave cylinder mount.

next to work out if the existing gearbox shaft will work? and what clutch/pressure plate combo to use.

then you can worry about the position through the floor.

I guess most people go the 5 speed, because it's a proven combo which has off the shelf parts.

would be easier to put the entire Ford engine/box combo in...

now that would be different!
