Hi all,

I'm looking for an FC to buy in the Canberra area, preferably registered and in good nic.

So I have been looking around for a while now, and from the flood of responses and it's obvious I'll have to look further afield to get my FC. Smiley

Has anyone checked out this one in Vic in the flesh? I'm in Canberra so would probably be buying it sight unseen and get it shipped up.

I have some tech questions for anyone out there in the know..

- Can HR discs be fitted to the drum front end on this car?
- Can anyone more familiar with FCs tell if that dash conversion is repairable? or would they have cut out part of the original to graft the HK on?
- Anyone know with a 202 fitted if I need to get it Engineered for ACT rego?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

Hello
Interesting car. I will try to answer some questions as best I can without seeing the car.

- Can HR discs be fitted to the drum front end on this car?
A. If you want HR discs, best to fit up the HR front end. As it mentions 4w drums I would guess it has stock FC front end. There is a chance it has a HD HR drum front end installed, which would mean you could swap over to discs. There is what appears to be a VH44 booster under the bonnet, so chances are 50/50.
- Can anyone more familiar with FCs tell if that dash conversion is repairable? or would they have cut out part of the original to graft the HK on?
A. He mentions in the text that he feels the dash could be changed back. Hard to tell, but it does look fairly makeshift. Even if it required a replacement dash, it would not be out of the question.
- Anyone know with a 202 fitted if I need to get it Engineered for ACT rego?
A. The members in ACT would know best, but I think an engineers report would be needed. I think the conversion looks only half complete. Would need brakes/ frontend, rearend, heater and wiper upgrades is my guess.
He also mentions that it has a 2.2lt which is a grey, not a 202 red which is 3.3lt. Probably never registered with red.

Regards
Alex

Andy, you would have to have this car engineered for ACT rego. The story says it has a 202, Hr front end, 4 speed. All of these as well as the buckets and other things I would expect would mean you would have to see an engineer.

Yes you can put HR or Torana discs onto a drum front end, you need the brakes and the disc stub axles.

Colin.

PS: Tim from Canberra recently put his red motored FC wagon onto ACT rego. An engineer is essential.

Thanks for the replies guys, helps he know a little more about what I'm getting into trying to register a modified FC in the ACT...would need

- Disc front end
- Demister/Heater
- Electric Wipers
- Seat Belts
- Brake Booster

Are these all the things I need to check that need to be upgrading if I find one with a red motor installed?

Sounds like I am better off finding a car with a grey motor, I can register straight away and do these mods myself over time.

thanks again, this seems like a very helpful forum!

Depending on what engine / trans combination is installed, you may need a chassis kit. Before engineering requirements were mandatory, builders would simply bolt a bracket to the floor or maybe to the crossmember under the floor - Now there must be a substantial chassis member in place.
I'm trying to think of various things that you may encounter. Radial tyres, sealed beam headlights, orange rear indicators in the rear instead of red.
Maybe you wont need these, maybe there are some others - your engineer will give you his list.

Hi Andy

You will also need windscreen washers in the ACT plus most of the other things already listed you will need to make sure your track width is no More than 25mm over.

My suggestion to you is go to ACT RTA have a chat to them they will direct you to the NCP road users document and then to an engineer.

They are also toying with the idea that vehicles weighing under 1100 Kg can only go 3 times the body weight as apposed to 4 prior which means an FC weight rego has for an FC is 1060 x4 = max4.2 Lt and not implemented yet the new will be 1060x3=3.18Lt which would mean you would be unable to put a 202Ci = 3.3Lt in.

My suggestion is to talk to the hand thats going to pass it in the end.

Best of luck

Julius
