Part numbers and advice please

I have been given a few parts today, mostly second hand but will recondition without too much trouble when I need them. I was given some numbers master cylinders which need reconditioning.

The tin tops on the master cylinders appear to be quite fragile. I haven't tried to remove them, but they look like they will collapse with too much force. The rubber underneath the master cylinder appears to have vulcanised itself to the master cylinder housing and the tin top. Suggestions on how to remove the tin top without damaging it, can one apply a bit of heat to help things along?

I was also given a NOS seal and a sleeved wheel cylinder. The part numbers for the seal is 7408403 and the wheel cylinder is 7400157. The seal has a leather dust cover and a rubber inner seal. I am thinking that the wheel cyinder maybe from an 48 series or FJ as it has the curved GMH symbol next to the part number. If it is will it still fit an FC?

If anyone can provide any information on the above it would be greatly appreciated.

Had a quick look in my books Keith, only found the seal

The seal is listed as
Rear Axle Pinion Oil Seal 7408403

Wheel cylinders are front 7400153 and 7400154 to suit FX to EK
Rear is 7400155 to suit FX to FC
Check your part number again to see if it one of these

I checked this morning before I went to work and the part number cast into the wheel cylinder is definately 7400157.

Hi,

I just thought that I would post the photo's of the wheel cylinder housing that I was given. I just thought it was odd as it doesn't seem to show up in parts manuals



I suppose the next point is to measure the diameter of the cylinder and to see if it bolts into the backing plates. Would someone please tell me the diameter of the front and rear wheel cylinders?
