The disk brake rear end in my FE is from a 240 series volvo
I have not yet connected up the hand brake set up
The existing cables from the rear are quite long
My question is has anyone done this before and can give me some tips
are the cables shorter from a later model?
Any help greatly appreciated

Cheers

Hayden. I cant help you, but whats with the volvo diff conversion? Is the width correct or did you have to shorten?

An easy conversion
Disc to Disc is about 20mm shorter than the original which allows you to fit deeper dish rims
Just grind off all thats on the volvo housing and weld your spring hangers on
It is best to set it up in a jig to get this correct
Use a HQ proportioning valve on the rear brake line to stop the rear discs locking up
There is a good thread on this conversion with pictures on the FB EK site

After some more research I have found out that the 164 series volvo rear cables are the ones to use
so I recommend that if anyone is considering this conversion this would be the rear end to get in the first place

by what I have read they are supposed to be as strong as a f**d 9 inch and are out there in LSD as well
Volvo is same stud pattern as early Holden but you need to run 14 inch rims
also they are available in quite a few different ratios
If you go to the FB EK site forum and go to Transmissions Drivelines etc there is quite a detailed thread there
Sorry I do not know how to create a link (perhaps another forum member can post it)

Haydn

Links are simple, just copy the text in the address bar at the top of your browser and be on the page that you want to copy.

Here is the link to this page.

So open up another window and go to the FB site and copy the address when you are on that page.

LSD for the Volvo diffs is expensive from what I have found, there is a product from an SA company called a "Lokka" but it only suits certain types of diffs and I have been unable to find out if it suits the Volvo diff.
