Can anyone help me by advising how I can remove the gear change hub off the column. I want to grind where the original gear lever fits onto the column off and bog and paint in relation to now having a floor change. It appears that the wiring will stop the hub coming off is this correct.I also purchased a new hump for CRS and the gaps under when you just put in position to see what the fit is like is a bit big. Do you have to cut and just fit as you go or should it lay flat and have very little gap before you start. HELP.

Hi John,

The wiring will definitely need to be removed. About half way up the column on the drivers side is a small cad plated cover with one phillips screw. Remove this and pull the wiring out from the top (after marking & disconnecting the appropriate wires under the dash).

To reinstall the wiring use a single piece of wire or a light steel coat hanger/welding wire as a draw wire. Push the draw wire down and guide it out of the hole in the column. Then just securely tape the wires to the steering wheel end of the draw wire and pull them down. I usually do this a few wires at a time rather than all at once. Much easier this way.

Cheers,

Craig.

Hey John
A variation of what Craig said.....before you pull the wires up through the column, tie a bit of string (or several) to the end and pull the string into the column as you withdraw the wiring. (Make sure the string is longer than the column) Untie and do your stuff with the honeypot. When your ready, tie the wires to the string and pull them back through.
