Was trying to work out where to borrow a lift from to get out the spare engine that came over with the FE. Was looking around the garage and decided to knock up something from some scrap timber and a couple of dollys. Then I thought to myself I could probably get it out myself if I am smart and don't damage the body. This is what I came up with:

Screw in some heavy enough timbers and create a ramp to the new engine dolly:

Slide the engine forward and get it ready:

Lift up one end only and swing it onto the ramp:

Then the other end:

Slide it on down the ramp. Notice the way I did it left a good clearance to the lip of the boot no matter the car rising and the weight is transferred:

Keep it moving:

A little more:

Line it up:

Drop it in!!

And wheel it back inside to await its storing place:

As they always say - Don't try this at home!

However, using my head I never had to lift too heavy a weight and the whole thing took less than an hour and cost nothing. It would have taken longer to go and borrow gear, use it and bring it back.

So, now you know a bloke who can lift out a whole engine by hand!!

You should have taken a few (hundred) more pics and you could have made a stop-motion film about the engine getting out itself  Tongue
