Flexible brake line - HR disc front

Hi,

I have flexible hoses that have been on my car about 2 years and 2000miles.

The outer rubber protection has a small cut one one and I can see the braid.

I'm not sure how this has happened - possibly something sharp catching on the road.

Is this outer rubber only a protective coating, if so can I repair it by wrapping it in some good quality tape?

No Dave, brakes are way to important to take chances. Whilst statistically the chances are low that your hose will fail, what happens if your line is the 1 in 100 that does let go in a big way?
Not worth risking in my opinion, especially if your system is a single circuit one.

Dave,

I use brake lines which are sheathed within a spiral wound spring.

It stops the line getting snagged or rubbed and inadvertantly cut.

i have braided
 if you do get braided make sure they are approved, in nsw it must have a plastic coating over the braid, mine have already started to yellow a little so i would go with a dark tinted coating if i did it again. they cost $75-$80 each and look indestructable.
