Hi All, had a look at a FC Sedan last weekend that was for sale. I was told it was original but it has the firewall and inner guards painted the same colour as the outside. Has 55,000 miles on the clock but no way of knowing if genuine. It may be an older restoration. So the question is did GMH paint the firewall and inner guards the same colour as the outside? All the ones I have looked at have been black. Any help appreciated. Cheers ,David Shocked Shocked

Yes, a lot of the early FC's had no black at all in the engine bay.

yep my stock as a rock fe has a colour coded engine bay from factory but as soon as the chev goes in it will be black cause i think it makes the engine stands out.. but im a bit hollywood..

Just thought I'd add my two cents also,

Before my car was painted white pearl and dark blue, the engine bay was the same colour green as the roof/quarter panels/boot [the car was stock at this stage].

We have had this discussion many times before, but as a GENERAL rule (there are exceptions)
1956 colour firewall - black skirts
1957 1958 FE and early FC colour firewall and skirts
late 58 FC black firewall - colour skirts
1959 black firewall and skirts

As I said their are lots of exceptions and the factories seem to change depending on what seemed like a good idea at the time. But the majority of cars I see have the above tendencies

                                                     Body: FC/225-18463M
                                                     Trim: 282-630
                                                     Paint: 256-2033
                                                     Insert: 253-7478
                                                     Top: 256-2033
                                                     Engine # B285240

As Ken says.
Many variations on engine bay colour schemes exist - most are genuine factory paint jobs.
Many GMH Detail Part Colour Instructions/Revisions were Issued, from time to time 1956-1959 to the various factories.
My 1956 Sydney built cars (3) all have whole of engine bay painted to match body colour (lower body colour).
