Red body with a black lid - can't tell you the exact colour red - but close to fire engine red.

Hey Lizard this may help you

This is an orange Ryco filter that takes the R4P. It has the mouting bracket welded to the body.
Perhaps the Ryco filter that takes the larger R4 filter is the red one
The other orange filter is a Fram. It has the Holden part number on the body and the holden part number on the lid for the filter. It also has the mouting bracket welded to the body
The black filter is the AC and has the mounting bracket attached by a U bolt
I have also got a NOS grey AC filter

this is what I have - looks like the body in last photo but with mounting bracket & U bolt - little hard to see in white primer - & no markings anywhere & a Ryco filter fitted perfectly

I suppose its all in the colour perception - I called the top one (Ryco) red and the Fram ones orange - Fire engine red is probably an exaggeration though. In the lower shot the Ryco filter looks very similar in colour to the Fram one but red is a colour which fades and ages considerably - the NOS Ryco filters that I have had were quite red in colour.
The New AC filter I owned had a hammertone silver base.
Talking about colour can mean different things to different people I guess.

So having said that Ken - do you think I have a Ryco or Fram.
I reckon Ryco because I guess a Fram filter cartridge won't fit in a Ryco & vice versa.

Yep it would be a Ryco filter - have seen Ryco filters with the bracket like yours so that is what I would guess.

I bought a spray can of Chevvy Orange and I reckon it came out pretty close to the original colour that was on the Ryco filter body.

And Ken has (or used to have) the transfer for the lid of the Ryco.

All 3 filters are NASCO. Ryco, AC and Fram are all specified as accessories for the FE and FC. The non original filters don't have the bracket to mount onto the sideplate and usually mount on the engine bay skirt.
