Well done Jamie, the bullet end should be part of every FE FC assembler's tool box. Some subframes go together easily Grin others don't Tongue

After repairs in the A pillar area or subframe legs, the heat from the welding can alter bolt alignment a little bit and make assembly difficult.

Thanks Ken.As you have mentioned and something I forgot in the earlier post was to be wary when altering or repairing a subframe as I did.I am sure this is the reason why things did not fit quite as they should have straight up.I was very particular when repairing the A pillar bulkhead so that I didn't change any dimensions but obviously didn't pay as much attention to the subframe. All good now though.

Thanks Keith,it is great to have it back on it's wheels as it has finally turned full circle and now feels like it is going back together.Had a good day yesterday while looking after the little fella (who was extremely good for his Dad) I managed to get the bonnet and boot lid stripped, repaired and in Hi-Fill primer. The filler is very thin and only a skim coat. Most of the impressions or dents were over the bracing where I couldn't get to so had to fill.Front guards next and thats it for the body until I start rubbing it all back ready for top coat.

Board filed to find the impressions....

Filler applied...

Hi-Fill applied

Filed and filled.........

Hi filled....
More very soon.Cheers Jamie.

You have been busy Jamie.  Cheesy

Was good to catch up with you last weekend and see your progress first hand. And I love that heater - I've never seen one that small before - it's just far too cute for words! Cheesy

Hi Jamie - didn't get out to Gawler today - but thanks for the thought!

26 years down the track and I'm still getting good use out of the rare factory solar heating option.  We've got a NOS "still in the box" Tao Denso ready and waiting and a pretty good one is going in the van.  The little Shin Tao are gorgeous though - I don't really need one - I would have only bought one just to be able to look at and say how cute it was all the time!  Cheesy Maybe I'll keep an eye out at the Strath swap meet though!  Cheesy

Hey Ed,the bonnet was blasted. The boot was stripped with paint stripper then strip disc then deoxidined then primed several months ago. Then on Saturday I board filed it to find the highs and lows then filled then Hi-Fill.The Protec Hi-fill I am using can be applied directly over bare metal so saves a step.Front guards and Hi-fill the three doors then lots of rubbing back.Cheers,Jamie.

Hi all,I have been working on the drivers side rear door tonight and is the last door to be finished. It was only yesterday I commented to my wife how lucky I was to have such a straight rust free door (although it did require a skim coat mainly around the edges). While filing the filler back, the paper on the board file caught on the edge and the door shot off the panel stand and landed on the floor with a sickening thud bending the leading corner over almost at right angles Cry ....I live next door to the local pastor and needless to say,he learned a few new words today.... Angry

No,I didn't take a photo of the damage,I was too pissed off!More very soon,Jamie.

Jamie,

Great work, sorry to hear of your mishap with the door, Nothing worse than going one step forward and steps backward

Keep at it, it will soon be in colour

I'll trade you a straight door with rust if you like.  Wink
If that is indicative of the doors on your car, you are indeed a lucky boy!!  Cool
A small set back in the scheme of things.  Cheesy

Thanks for the comments guys .It is amazing the condition of these doors as only one had any rust repairs and yet I have replaced just about the whole lower part of the car!All doors, boot and bonnet, bonnet lock panel and the panel under the grille now done. They will all have to come off again to be painted and to finish the jamb parts but I have put them on to get them out of the way and so that they don't get damaged lying around the shed.Front guards next.

More soon.Jamie.

Yes Pedro, the one owner FJ standard will be getting a bit of attention as soon as the FC is finished (needs the engine bay cleaned up and the front end reconditioned, kingpins and bushes).Beautiful old car though and stock as a rock.
