Whilst on the subject of Hot Rodding ,Has anyone been tuned in to the rule's and regulation's lately

The government have just changed the rules to stop the use of reproduction chassis under Rod's
Think about that for a moment !
One decision has just killed a whole industry ,The companies who produce the Chassis can no longer sell them because there is no demand , If you however already own a (Fibreglass or Steel) Street rod on a repro chassis you are OK but if you are on club rego you will never be able to register that vehicle under standard registration but can continue to keep it club rego'd whilst in your name - if however your registration expires you will not be able to re-register that vehicle without an original chassis under it
Now if car was to be sold you will not be able to re-register that vehicle without an original chassis under it
So basicaly a $ 40 000 Rod will drop in value quite severely because an original chassis is like bull's milk to find and the market for an original is about to go through the roof.
Another new law is stopping the use of tubular suspension - Case in point , I have a mate who has invested over the last 14 months a very lot of money ,Time and experience into manufacturing this product which is now unable to be used and boy is he pissed

Anyways what I'm getting at here is that all of us should be shall I say "a tight knit group" when it comes to authority just look at the Maraulan weigh station episodes and shepparton ,The government is realy tightening up the ropes as of late and maybe we will be next ,FC's not allowed on the road ,That would be a crime but a very realistic thought on heirachies mind's maybe....

Harko,  the problem is as I see it, that a glass car with a repro chassis is not an old car but a new car and as such must meet current ADR's.
Therefore you can use a repro chassis but if used on a car it must meet current ADR's
I appreciate that this is difficult (impossible?) and this is why the conclusion has been reached that you can't use a repro chassis.
Hot Rodders are very clever though and I'm sure there is a way round this rule.

Sorry Ken What I was trying to get across is that as of last week "No reproduction chassis can be under a rod and registered under a new registration" ADRs or not
Any car already registered is fine unless ownership changes whereas then  it cannot be re-registered or rego transfered
What was common knowledge is that a rod could easily be registered with a repro chassis (Full rego complying with current ADRs ) as you mentioned and Club rego cars were slipping through with ADRs of the body age and not the chassis (ie Pre 1948).
In simple a mate built a 28 roadster 427 - It was on club rego (Engine to big for RTA) Its a glass body on a repro chassis ,Lately he pulled it off the road to upgrade the diff - Which took longer than expected so he let the registration expire , His $55000 investment can no longer be registered unless he replaces the chassis with an original and is within the specified power to weight ratio (no more big block)
A glass body on a original chassis is also acceptable with no ADRs

Thats what I mean when I say a whole industry is now terminated.

Harko,

IMHO,

Wouldnt rods with repro chassis be classed as ICV (individually Constructed Vehicles)?   requiring demonstration to current ADR's

sounds like they are trying to get your mates car thru the MPV (Modified Production Vehicle)  category which has  power:weight ratio issues etc?

Huh

Rods without an original chassis are now classed unregisterable

Rod's with a repro were  most definitely ICV's but they were also slipping through full rego as an MPV with repro chassis  not a 2001 ICV

My mates car was already under club rego but now the rego has expired and the law requires an original chassis It can not be registered without one

So if he find's one it would then be an MPV which will stop the use of a big block because of power to weight issues (900kg A Model)
Hope it's becoming a little clearer .
