The Council of Motor Clubs NSW is once again running the Shannons Eastern Creek Classic on Sunday August 26.

The NSW Club has a limited number of vehicle passes available to members. You can purchase yours ($10) at the August Club Meeting on the 14th, or get in touch with blu_fc if you'd like one and won't be able to make the meeting.

More information about the event is available at the official Eastern Creek site.

Genuine congratulations Leon, an extremely well deserved reward, and some compensation for your immense efforts and investment in building such a high quality car - even if it was with a black steering box ;-)

I hope you plan on taking this vehicle to the upcoming FE FC Nationals in Mt Gambier so all enthusiasts can appreciate your workmanship.

Cheers,

Craig.

I'll echo all the previous comments - the standard of vehicles in the Concours display is incredible, and it's a huge tribute to Leon's dedication to this car to win this prestigious award.

Thanks to Mal, here's a pic of Leon and the FE...

Woops, and I'd also like to thank Ted, Mal, John (Maco), and Dick Thomas who helped me with the loan of tools when the XU1 had a hissy fit and blew and extractor gasket. The noise was embarrassing, the 6 foot flames out the exhaust were kind of cool  Grin

Thanks guys.  Kiss

My congratulations too Leon, you had some serious competition on the day. I had marked it down to the MG TC, '46 Ford Coupe and your car and I woudn't have liked to have had to pick the winner.

For those not familiar with this event, this is the annual Combined Motor Clubs Display, there something over 1800 cars on display and probably 50 -100 car clubs represented. The Concours is open to all comers, as long as they are a member of an affiliated club.

Therefore, to win a category is special, to win overall is a very significant achievement indeed and testament to the quality of what Leon has wrought.

Smiley Thanks to all for your response.
The day started out fine at Campbelltown where I live then as I got closer to Eastern creek the fog was as thick as pea soup.
I got there around 8am, an hour to wipe the car down.
The judges started to inspect under all the cars, inside, outside, under the bonnets, and guards. I was standing near by when they ask me a few questions about the car, they knew a lot about the old Holdens thats for sure especially DR Terry. But the other judges were not sure about my black steering box and the engine coloured fuel lines, I told the judge's that the car had only 34000 original miles on the clock and I can't believe that the first owner would pull the steering box out and paint it black because when I got it in its original condition I assured them it was black and that the fuel and vacuum lines were the same colour as the engine, I was hopping they believed me.
All of us in the concourse area had Two laps of the circuit then it was the presentations.
After the conversation with the judges I just felt it wasn't my day,
Then my name was called out for first place in the 1951 to 1960 categories, I was shocked I couldn't believe it I was shaking I went back into the crowd when my name was called out again for the overall winner,Wow Grin it was a good thing I had my sun glasses on, I couldn't believe it I was up against the best cars ever these cars were in top condition and my car was just a back yard job.
I'm no spray painter or mechanic I just believed in myself  a lot of patience and most important a good wife.
I'm sure a lot of you out there have gone through  what I've gone through, keep at it and you will have the car that you will be proud off.
A special thank you Alex, Richard, John, Craig, and others in our club for your inspiration and support.
See you all at our next meeting with the trophy's. Wink
