Hi all,you may have seen this for sale on ebay recently.I purchased it to hang under the dash on my black FC and it looks real cool just under the radio panel. My question is,does anyone know what it originally came out of?The seller said he had it in his FX years ago,but I'm not sure if that was original as I've not seen another one like it.Any ideas?Cheers,Jamie

I believe they were aftermarket by Smiths.
They were atleast targeted for the FJ and were supplied with gauges that matched the existing set in colour.

I have seen an advert for them somewhere, but can't put my hand on it.
Yours looks to be in good nick.

G'day,
From what I can remember it looks as if the gauges were taken from a Phase III........Not F*#@!!!
From a Phase III Standard Vanguard. around 1962-1964 or thereabouts
Interesting as these gauges are from a positive earth car.
Does anyone know if that would have an impact?

I have seen them before  in an FJ , with the blue face but mounted in a different  housing under the dash.

Thanks for your reply Alex.In general mine is in good nick, although the temp gauge that was in the pod when I got it was not working (capillary reservoir was broken) but I managed to find another one which was brand new (still in the original box)!I dismantled them, cleaned the glass, repainted the needles and gave them a good clean and they came up looking like new.As I said,it looks right at home in the FC.Cheers,Jamie.

Hi Alan, both these gauges are mechanical,so the earthing makes no difference.Does anyone know the history of Smiths gauges as I have several and they are made in U.K. ,but the temp one that I just bought (shown) is made in OZ.
