What colour interior trim would have been used on an FE Van painted (Duco Laquer) 'Ocean Mist Green'? The number on the I.D. plate 157-598(or 596) comes up unknown on the decoder. R.

Hi Rabbitoh, Lagoon Green PVC trim was only only used on 2 FE van bodies colours: Ocean Mist Green (157-598) or Levant Green (175-598). Quite rare, but I know of 2 vans that have/had this trim. Do you have the rest of the ID & c/n for this van. Geoff_K

Thanks for the ID details. Very tight set of Ocean Mist Green Van's out of Adelaide, very close together down the production line. Adds weight to the theory that the factories 'batched' colour and trim combinations. Cheers, Geoff_K

Geoff_K, It appears the subframe was replaced on my van at some stage. The original chassis number was: 7-26666 M Manufacture date based on original engine no. was July '57.

Hi Rabbitoh, Thanks for that, confirms closeness with other Ocean Mist Van Chassis no's 599 apart Body no's 13 However it does show that 'Chassis' were being built separately and being stacked ready for 'Bodies', and that in this instance they had 'at least' 600 chassis ready because the the 'later van' has the earlier chassis no. I guess the old store room problem occurred; the older stock being stockpiled and then getting stuck at the back of the rack. Cheers, Geoff_K

Dunno about that, Geoff.
Chassis numbers were stamped on the assembly line, not as part of manufacture. All vans were manufactured in Adelaide, these two 13 apart. Both happened to be assembled in Melbourne, 599 vehicles apart. Their sequence out of Adelaide has at best only a rough "batched" correlation with their sequence in Melbourne.
In any case 600 chassis numbers is only a few days' worth of vehicle assembly.
cheers RET

Yes you are right RET, chassis were not stacked! I was not thinking about Adelaide to Melbourne trip. However, if I run my line of thinking, one of the Adelaide 'Bodies', took longer to get onto the Melbourne Production Line, and thus was 'stacked/parked' somewhere for a longer time. Figuratively, it either missed the train, or the truck driver went to sleep! Cheers, Geoff_K
