Hi,
I've just finished putting a blue head on my red six with a weber carb and extractors,  Fired her up first time and everything was sweet , but after checking the oil level I noticed it looked a bit funny like it had water in it ,
What have I done wrong?
I drilled the new water holes as required and let the gasket cover up the unwanted ones.

did you drill 4 holes?
i beleive you dont have to but my old holes are taped and pluged with stanless grubscrews.
what did you use for a stud sealer?
did you rebuild the hole motor or just change the head?

This was just fitting a new head , I drilled the holes after I laid out the new gasket on the red block And i used stud sealer that is a Holden recommended product.

Thanks for the pic ,
Looks like I'll have to start again , i.e. pull my head off this weekend  ,,,, and see about those grub screws.
Where do I get a grub screw and what do I do with the tape ?
What type of Head gasket do you or anybody else recommend ?

Im sure he meant head was "tapped" rather than taped.

yep, i mean a tap to put thread in a hole, the screws came from my engine shop, a engineering supplies might have them, they are like a bolt with no head and a allen key hole in top, if you get the size of the hole you could ask for the grub screws and a tap to match the thread on the grob screws.
in the pic the grub screws have four yellow lines pointing to them, my engine shop reckons it wouldnt leak if you left them out, they are just there for peice of mind.
my last gasket was a acl monotorque, it was ok, acl also have a fancier strong one wich is the race series head gasket.
if the motor was all together there is a possibillity ofcourse that water went in the oil when you removed the head, i usually drop all the oil after taking of a head and put new oil in, might be worth checking out if you havent taken the head of yet.
make sure the surfaces are clean, i used metho for the final cleaning on the surfaces wich were already machined.

Thanks for the info and advice fccool I'll try the oil and filter change before I remove the head for a closer look.

I,ve changed the oil and filter and wacko problem solved , thanks for the advice must have let some water in while I changed the head over , youve saved me a lot of pain and mucking around
