     Thinking about fitting a 3.36 diff centre in my f.c.,can someone tell me what model holden these were from so I can start looking ,thanks  Steve . Smiley

Steve,

This is all from memory and I may be wrong so am more than happy to be corrected by anyone.

The 3.36 started in the EH Holden and went right through to HZ Holden however there was a change to a fine spline in the HX/HZ Holden.
So look for anything out of EH to HJ Holden.
Toranas had the same ratio but there was also a longer stud in the torana diffs which you would have to get and fit in your FC housing to use a 3.36 torana diff centre.
The ratio's are normally stamped on the diff pinion oil seal slinger near the yoke.

This is not quite correct, the Torana diff centres are the same as larger Holdens. The centres with the 2 long bolts are 3.08 and 2.78 ratios. The centre casting is different to clear the different size crown wheel.

Hi Terry,

I want to put a shorter ratio in my XU1, preferably a 3.55. I have a 3.55 centre that was in my FC, but its coarse spline.

What models used the same fine spline axles as the XU1, and came out with the 3.55 ratio? My XU1 uses the optional 3.08 LSD.

This info may be useful for other guys as well because you could possibly get a centre from another model and it won't work with your axles due to the fine spline/coarse spline issue.

hi i'm new to this and i need to know what speedo gear i need to run in my car. i have a 253 with a m20 gear box with a 2.78 ratio diff and 225.50.14 tyers.i think the 2.78 center was fitted to a auto  can any one help. Huh

I am running a 2.78 and m20 in my ht with 215 tyres and have a white[20 teeth] gear. My gps tells me this is almost spot on with speedo readings.

Steve so that you can identify what vehicles had what ratios here is a quick way to determine. Bear in mind these vehicles are getting older and may already have had diff changes.
Manual vehicles were fitted with 3.55 and 3.08
Automatics were fitted with 3.36 and 2.78

The 3.08 and 2.78 had the extra longer bolt

Normally most 6 cyl holden 6's were fitted with a 3.36 ratio diff. Most 4 cyl's (mainly the torana's) had the 3.55 ratios.
Special cars such as the v8's and the gtr's and the like,  were fitted with the 3.08 and auto's were fitted with the 3.08 and the 2.78 ratio diff heads. Grin
