Beehive heater re-core - recommendations?

Hi,

My NASCO beehive heater has been out of the car for 20+ years and I'm getting close to refitting it.

The core looks good and passed a leak test but I presume I should re-core it after so long.

Can anybody recommend where I could get a re-core done in the Melbourne area?

If it passes the leak test, I would run it.

Not many places that can recore an old heater. The cores won't be available.

They are normally pretty good for corrosion, but occasionally crack where the heater hoses connect. If it does, take it to a radiator shop and ask them to solder it back up. My local shop grinned, had it done in 5 minutes, and didn't charge... think they got a kick out of working on something that old instead of trucks and Commodores  .

I've also been reading about cleaning the core by flushing with vinegar or baking soda. Not sure I want to risk it but I'm interested in what others think.

go to your local radiator repair place have them flush and pressure test for you , if it fails they should be best to take action , best piece of mind  .Our radiator repair guys here in Riverstone Sydney rebuilt a 1918 K model Inter truck radiator for us ,new core made in South Aust ,just great ...cheers Vern
