I have replaced outer sills on my fc and fe sedans and now looking replacing both outer sills on me fc ute.
Thing is can you access from B pillar back to wheel arch from cutting old sill out from outside or do you need to turn yourself into a chimpanzee and access this section from inside ute?

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: Front brakes locking up

I’m not sure if I’ve posted this before , (old age ) but has anyone , with an FE had reoccurring problems with the front brakes locking up when the car has NOT been used for several days and in particular , in cold , damp , weather conditions . I have had to go up & down my drive touching the brake pedal very gently for 5/ 10 mins before it rights itself . It’s been to so called experts several times to no availe. I’ve just picked it up from a repair place with 30 years exp who assure me they have sorted it . Was just interested to know if it was an inherent problem with the car , or an isolated thing with mine . Cheers🍺🐌
My fc does the same with lack of use , you need to drive it more. The shop would have probably replaced brake fluid and freed up wheel cylinders. Something that can be done at home easily.

Technical Board / General Technical / Re: ek axles into fc diff

Thing is the fc bearing is sealed,so in effect the fc has a seal in the housing and sealed bearing.
The fb has a o ring seal in bearing also a o ring seal on the oil deflector that sits against outside of bearing.
I havent had any leaks in left side with ek axle with fc bearing (just didnt know I had that combination till today) in 3 seasons racing with overfilled diff so yes Iam confused given axle flange facing also 2mm thicker.( on the 2 axles i have any way, main reason I changed to ek being I fitted 75 mm studs and the wider flange grips them better than fc.) Axles were from ek auto not that that should make any difference.
Anyway all good and will let you know if they leak after 1st race meeting of the year this Sunday.

Yes that seems right Ken I fitted the narrow sealed fc bearing to a ek axle today and fitted to fc housing no problems also noticed other side is already fb/ek axle.
The Fb onwards bearing has the o ring seal and wider bearing.
As mentioned the flange face that the drum sits against is also 2mm wider.

Rear wheel bearings are slightly wider for fb onwards than up to fc and are shown as different part numbers.
What bearings have others used when fitting EK axe to FC housing? I also noticed there is a about 2mm difference in face of axles EK being wider.
Thanks, Gary.

Technical Board / Modification Help / Close ratio grey crashbox

Just wondering if anyone has used Old Car Gearboxes in Moorabin for a taller 1st and 2nd gear upgrade in their grey powered race cars?
Or for that matter where to purchase the gear from, I have a mate in WA been waiting a long time for his.
Also the hassle of sending a box from WA to Moorabin.
Thanks, Gary
