Thanks everybody, I did track down a supplier in Perth but then the different types of paint and primers stumped me. I thought I would just paint the engine bay ready for the new grey motor and didnt fully realise the complexities involved in primer and paint type. We have Hitachi excavators and believe it or not the grey on the cab trim is as close as I need so I ended up painting the engine bay Hitachi light beige. It will do untill full resto in 2 years. Thanks again, Gary C

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Re: Sill replacement

Thanks Ken, I was probably a bit optimistic (praying) that the sills would just slip straight in and be perfect. I have since spent about 6 more hrs and the drivers side is getting close, the main problem is when the gap under the door alignment strip and the sill. When this gap is close to original the new sill only just reaches the inner sill ( 10mm cover) about 15mm short of the old sill spot welds. There is a slight difference in the left and right hand sills also, the left sill has the b pillar cutout whereas the right sill is solid there is a difference in both ends also. The right sill is dated late 07 and the left late 08. It always makes it more difficult when you live slighly remote of any major city when you have to wait extra weeks and pay extra freight. Thanks again for your help, if you need a weekend in Broome W.A just let me know I will still probably have the left side to do. Gary C

Technical Board / Restoration Help / Sill replacement

Hi everyone, just had my replacement sills delivered today (rare spares ) and started fitting the drivers side. I have never replaced a sill before and have tried to inform myself best as possible before I started. Removing the old sill and keeping the floor and inner sill intact wasnt too much of a drama ( two full days one side ) but trying to fit the new sill to the dogleg and b pillar is a joke, I thought that these things just welded in. Is it correct that you have to cut and trim around all pillars to get the most reasonable fit and then patch and body fill around the dog leg and b pillar?Iam not joking when I say its not pretty. I have read the Ken Mclean how to 20 times before I started but need help. So if anybody has any suggestions it would be much appreciated. Oh yeah the b pillar has tongue type piece extending up into the pillar and almost reaches the bottom of the sill. not attached to the sill, if this stays you have to cut out the new sill to allow for it.Does it stay or does it go and what is it for. Thanks Gary C

Thanks Ken, I would have thought standard fc suspension travel would not be much more than 5inch maximun(only guessiing) so if you lower your car 3 inches with same rebound you only have 2 inches travel? Is that why you think 3 inches is too muchI f this is correct to restrict "bottoming out" a stiffer spring is required. Then hence stiffer ride. What I want to achieve is low , soft ride and handle. If there is such a kit available I'm keen. Gary

Thanks for the info, Pedders do supply a coil spring that they state lowers the car 3 inches from standard,I thought that might be too low, maybe if I go back to 13x6inch rims? Also probablly go for the 2inch lowering blocks and thinking along the lines of all rubber. Sorry FB mad, the front rubbers I mentioned are the grease seals and the crossmember mounting rubbers, Because Iam replacing all seals and mounts including firewall grommets I was hoping to just go through one supplier and get it over and done with in one hit, any suggestions would be much appreciated, thanks again. Hi, replacing front and rear shocks and springs, everything standard including brakes, diff and fresh modified grey. I do want to lower a tad and nice 14x7inch rims. Has anyboby got any suggestions on coils and shocks. Rear leafs are being reset. Also is there a kit for all rubber front and back suspension or is there a improved replacement for all? You know how it goes, started out fresh motor, ending up full resto. Thanks Gary

Thanks for the info Ret I will follow it up, only want to paint the engine bay at the moment as rebuilt grey motor is near completion.I live in Broome 2400 kms from Perth so its pretty hard tracking things down. There was some chat in FOR SALE about march regarding my fc. It was red when I bought it on ebay. It was resprayed directly on top of the grey and you can actually rub the paint off by hand, anyway thanks again. Gary.
