I know its not an fe fc question , but i stumbled onto a FJ 217 businessmans sedan yesterday. I bought it at night and did not realize till this morning that it was a 217. My question is are these 217 Fj sedans as rare as the 217 in the FC and fe models, as I know the 217 fe and fc are a very rare car indeed and Im unsure of the Fj. Any help would be appreciated, Cheers SLIM

Hey Slim,
The FJ wasn't as rare as the FE FC, but not a common FJ model either. There is a slight possibility that it could be a "Special" build though.
Let me know the compliance plate, engine & chassis details etc.
I have all of Don Lofflers books. I can look it up. I am also in contact with him frequently & have found some goodies for him, so this may be another good find.

Sorry Rob , I just got tied up and forgot. Numbers off chassis  is either a 5 or a 6 at the start..........5-14340-B and When im in the garage next I will get the Tag body details. I took the tag off the car and put it away as they have a tendancy to go walkabout. As for Engine number it has a HP block in it. Number is   M 37947. CHEERS SLIM

No worries, Slim. As soon as you get the tag details, that is where all the good info is. Let me know & I can check the books & give you the info you need.

Harcourt Green exterior with Field Green interior, manufactured in April '55 at Woodville (original Adelaide plant) and assembled in Brisbane.

Motor is EH, but no way of knowing if originally fitted to Premier, Standard or Special TTBOMK.

When you talk about rarity of 215s over 217s, do you mean originally or now?  (Not that I know the answer either way Roll Eyes)

cheers

Slim,

According to Don Loffler, there were about 9,300 business sedans made against 28,000 standards, 80,000 specials, 45,000 utes and less than 8,000 panel vans, of total FJ production of 169,969 units.

Business sedans sat higher than other sedans because they had heavier duty rear springs (more leaves?)

I assume the survival rate would be very low, since most were probably used as taxis. Does yours show any evidence of this?

Hope this helps

Hi Slim,
looks like the boys beat me to it. :-/
It isn't a "Special" build car, but still cool. Like John said, the 217 had an extra leaf in the springs & it rode higher. Also, a Taxi Bar, special seat surrounds & a little switch in the centre pillar. Some other little extras like a pocket in the kick board for the log books (If carried).
