Moulding Clips

Help Needed,

Approximatey this time last year I pulled off all the mouldings. To find all to the moulding clips are basically
stuffed.  Now I dont know (then again mabe too lazy)where to put them back to find out what I need to order a complete set new ones.

Is there a set you can just buy with everything I will
need for the whole car from someone other then Rare spares, or can anyone help me with part numbers from Rare spares and how many I will need of each. Because the man behind the counter doesn't know everything for every car, and no refunds of course for mistaken orders.

The only ones I wont be needing is the drop down
brackets on the rear doors.

Any advise on where I go can from here, or what I can do would be great Thanx

Since you've mentioned back doors, that's at least narrowed it down to a sedan or wagon    Let us know whether it's an FE or FC, and if it's a standard or special as well, as the quantities and types of clips obviously differ.

Sorry My fault,

It's a 58 FC Special sedan.

(Interesting little fact that I didn't know, is that I have noticed , is that I've also got a 59 FC special sedan that I'm taking pickings off, those moulding clips are different to the ones I took of my 58, and alot more of them closely spaced together especially on the doors.  Just thought to mention it, it might be relavent.)

Smoo, are you in Victoria ?   I've found that the best people to buy clips from are Village Vintage in Whitehorse Rd.
They are very helpful and have a bigger range than R/S.

the front guards have12 clips with small bolts that hold them on.  An identical clip to original exists.

front doors 3 lower & 5 upper, (not counting the ends) the clips to use are those with a bolt attached to a plate with a spring attached and have a nut on the back,
The ends use a special flat plate with a screw through it. I think they have a clip which will do this as well.

Note that the difference you have between doors is because one is not an original special front door.  Either a standard door or a new door skin fitted.  Probably the one with more holes is original - also the original holes were a flattened circle shape - not round.

Rear doors have 1 hole for the upper and 2 for the lower (not counting the ends) clips to use are the same as front doors

Now rear guards are a problem - at the rear of the guard you can use the clips as described for the doors but the front of the guard has no access to the rear of the clip.  It seems that the only clip that can be used is one which VV offer that pushes into a blind hole.
I have used this clip once and found it to be OK but care must be taken to get the right sized hole and then a fair amount of force had to be use dto get it in.

DEFINATELY try on an old mudguard first to get the hang of it.

I recently had to reassemble all the mouldings on one side of my FC wagon since all of the exposed side had been pinched whilst the car was in storage.

Whilst most of the information re part numbers and types of clips is available, it seems to spread over different parts catalogues.

In frustration I drew up a diagram for the rear doors listing all the correct par numbers and showing pictures of what all the correct clips look like.

One of my original parts manuals (I *think* it's the "Accident Repair Catalogue"), has several pages of this information.  Basically there are line drawings of a stack of different clips, each with a part number.  Elsewhere in the book there are listings of how many are required for each model etc.

I'll attempt to scan the relevant pages, but no promises.  This book is pretty rare, and being cloth-bound, it may not open wide enough to scan without damaging the spine.  I'll keep you posted how it goes.

And you probably thought I'd forgotten all about it!

I have scanned the pages of the manual - it was the Accident Repair Catalogue, as it turns out - that have the pictures of all the various clips.  This edition is handy, because it goes up to FB, so it includes all the clips for the various paint styles of the FC.

I've put the three pages of clips on a separate page here

It's a bit more complicated sorting out all the relevant pages of the rest of the manual - gee I wish I had all these manuals on CD like GM-H does these days.....  A proper database of them would be even better!

Anyway, if you've got a parts manual to suit your car, you'll have the rest of the information you need.

This may also be of help along with RET's pictures. Pages of catologue are able to be printed (Like any other document on web) just copy and paste or print direct.
