Just to assist finding one, automatic 6 cyl LH Toranas had a 2.78 centre with course splines, that's where I got mine from. So maybe try Torana forums to source this diff centre??

Also the Torana diffs had 2 (from memory) longer bolts bolting the diff centre to the axle housing that the normal diffs didn't so if you get a torana diff centre then you will need these longer bolts to fit to an ordinary axle housing (non Torana). You can make up these longer bolts.I was given a torana 3.08 diff centre (without the longer bolts)a few years ago and fitted it into a HQ housing and made up these two longer bolts to fit.Little bit of work but it fitted OK and no leaks.

the extra long bolt is not the problem, its welding in the captive nut as with out a full weld they will leak almost guaranteed, ive seen the nut siliconed into housing work but have also seen several that leaked all the time.if you put bolt in from inside housing with a nut pulling it up tight it can work also but best way is the welded in nut as you cant stop it spinning once diff is in as you cant get to it.

I welded an extra length onto a standard diff bolt and pressed it into the diff housing using stud sealer. This worked OK. The nut then goes on the outside like normal.

Forgot to mention I have a NOS 3.08 crown wheel & pinion available for $40 plus postage. This will enable you to have a 3.08 ratio diff built in a standard housing.

Yep thats how I did it Rusty.Used copper washers and fibre washers and no leaks to date 3 years on.Modified the head of the bolt (welded on a small locating tab)so it wouldn't turn as the nut was being done up.

thanks for the help everyone. I bought a 2.78 from a local Torana wrecker for $110 and that included the 2 long bolts. To deal with the different length bolt issue - I will get a 4cm lug welded onto one of the bolt heads to stop it spinning when the nut is tightened up. It will be fitted from the inside the housing. The other long bolt will just screw into the housing. I just hope its not noisy - thats always a problem when buying from a wrecker whan the condition is unknown.
