I have seen it done to an EK Wagon, but there is a lot of fart-arsing about to get it to fit -

as I said on another forum, for all the work involved it might be worth looking a full custom front end from Rodtech (http://www.rodtech.com.au) or other establishment.

Hi Ben,

I had a good look at Ahmet the Mad Turks HD ute up close and yes it can be done.

from memory the bolt holes need to be re-akigned.

He reckons it handles, stops and steers beautifully.

Latest SM has an article on front mounted racks on HR front ends.

they mount the rack above the lower control arm pivots and reckon because the longer rack you get a good lock to lock.

not sure if this is why you want to change to Torana front?

Cheers

Basically the Torana front end has to be custom fitted to the Holden (rather like you would do on a hot rod)  It has rear facing castor rods which have to be mounted to the chassis as well.   The bonus is that it has a correct (well GMH engineered anyway) front mounted rack, so you dont have to go to all the trouble of setting up the rack to obtain correct steering geometry because it is already done.  The front end from an LH to UC is engineered for a car with V8 engine so is not a problem with authorising engineers as long as all welding is good.

Thanks for that ED I did read the article in SM but by the look of it the rack would sit to high as my motor is sitting fairly low ive only most probably got 10mm clearance from the sump to c/member. Another reason apart from the steering is trying to get a better ride and handling package.  I might take a trip to the wreckers and do some measuring.

Thanks again
