Sorry if I sound like I know nothing, but what is the significance of 580......is it a special rare one of a kind type FC ?

Thought it might be the build number, but then that would only be good if the car came with the $5000 asking price ?

Do you have a pic ?

I reckon the '580' is meant to represent 1958.
Still, a pic would be nice.  Do you have the transfer papers so the next person can put them on the vehicle?  Is the transfer included in the price, or do you want the buyer to pay for this?  Also would be worth mentioning which state you are in and which state the plates are from.  What about contact details?
regards, Shayne.

Pebbles....Mark here from Manjimup !

You can ask $50 000 if you like, but at the end of the day they are only worth what someone is prepared to pay for them.   If you can get $5000 then good on you, but realistically, I could order myself a brand new set of custom plates like FC 058 - FC 0058 - FC 5800, FC 5800, anything similar and it will only cost me around $400.

I've had heaps of people tell me that I SHOULD put a V8 in my FC not a 6....but those people usually have got no idea on what's involved.

You only have to pick up any copy of the Auto Trader or similar magazine, and there are heaps of plates for sale, and some for ridiculous prices way more than $5000.

I know some people who for example will NOW be ordering VE SS or VE HSV plates in readiness for the the VE commodore coming up.  They never put them on the car, the just buy them before any one else can and put them up for sale just to make money.

I say...if YOU think you can get $5000 then go for it, but given than the guys who will more likely buy them are those in our club, chances are, they'd hang out for our own club plates with logo which would cost a mere fraction of your asking price.

If you are lucky ( like one member in our club ), you can get generic state plates like 1AFC 179  ( FC 179 RED MOTOR ), they are FREE plus Stamp Duty and TSFR, which is about $20..... !

I hope you do get $5000 though, that way you can buy  another FC, and start a collection !

Good luck

Mark

One benefit of being in a small market (ie the ACT) is that plates are more readily available.  I was able to put FE 225 on my FE last month when I got it registered without any problems.  I just told the RTA what I wanted and they got it made up for me.

I would have taken the $5 grand, and got new plates " PHATBOY".

Can you believe that "PHAT" is now in the dictionary !

FC 1958 - your car appears to be a 1959 model or have you changed the paint scheme to make it look like a 1959 model?
the second style paintwork (such as yours was not introduced until January 1959)  Do you have any paperwork or other identifier that proves the car to be 1958.  Maybe it is a prototype of the 1959 model made in 1958.

Thanks for the info Ken

At second glance at rego papers they say Year = 1959 Grin Grin

However where I assumed it was 58 was from the Model - 58A
and Variant - FC58A.

ID TAG-
Body 255-23591-S
Trim 2530700
Insert 2687770

So I assume it's 1959

Looks like the plates stay  Grin Grin

and no FE  Sad Sad

and maybe I should change the username  Huh

or get a '58  Cheesy Cheesy
