I have pulled a early 1958 Fc out of a paddock in country victoria. The tailights on this 100% original car are orange, not red which seem to be on every FC within this site. Can anyone tell me why this is so. I would appreciate your responses.

Cheers

They've faded, simple as that.  The brake-light lens should be red.  The production of these were outsourced to different manufacturers by GM-H back in the day (like just about every other component not made in-house), and possibly some lasted better than others.  But it is almost certainly simply a case of fading with age.

I've seen some on cars that were partially covered or in a carport, where one has gone orange and the other is still quite red.

cheers

I've actually found one which was sitting in a shed with one half covered.  The exposed half is orange and looks like it always has been orange, the other half is red.

You can take them to any half devent paint shop and they will re-colour them for next to nothing, this is what I did and alls well.
