FC Holdens & Mini Coopers....Cars of the Century

Well guys, heres an update.......firstly the power of the internet tells me, TONY BARBER was the CAMBRIDGE WHISTLER ( not Winfield ).

See, you don't have to be born then to know things ! (LOL)

Now to the car....

After Trev told me about it, I was surprised the workshop it's sitting in, is no more than 200m from where I'm sitting right now !

So off to have a look......well after wiping up my drool, I found the owners name and phone number, and I decided to have a bit of a chat !

Here it is....

The car WAS in the Cambridge Whislter ads with Tony Barber, and since that time, was given away as a competition prize.  The winner of the prized FC sold it to the current owner many years back.
The car had a ground up resto costing some $30 grand ( apparantly ) to bring it to some sort of condition ready for a competition give away.

Well the winner and now current owner, have not touched the car since that day, other than the odd window seal here and there, the car is like it was after rebuild......There are even papers to prove it's history !

I touched it and opened the door and smelt it....it is 90% immaculate...I mean it has velour everything, seats, roof, doors....the paint work is 95%, the interior 95%.

It seems to have been converted to Manual (On the floor that is ), and is running the original Grey with extractors, and generally doesn't miss a beat.  The engine bay to look at would be say 75%.

The interior is spotless, the windows tinted, new rubbers, seals the works.

Put it this way, to buy a resto job and bring it up to the same condition, you'd spend around $15000 I'd say !

The current owner paid $12000 for it years back, and is about to throw another $5000 and paint and interior ect.

Now if you ask me, the guys is either a fanatic, or a fanatic....no other word desribes him.....to say that this car is due for panel and paint and an interior tidy up.....well I'm speechless !

I could not find a spot of rust on it !   mind you, I didn't open the boot  !

Now after talking to the guy, he says it's his pride and joy, but as he's been transferred with work to the outback, ( school  teacher ), he has told the garage owner, if he happens to find someone who wants it, then he may sell it...but nothing under $10 000.

He even told me, that after spending another couple of grand on panel and paint ( don;t know why ), he would maybe sell it for $12 000, but he doesn;t have to sell it, so if it doesn't sell, then he's not stressed.

Anyway, there you go.....

And before you ask...no, I don;t know the guy....just think it's one of the better FC's Ive seen in a long time !

Cheers

Nice looking FC. The colour is cool.
Did you notice that the white in the flash does not go through to the front doors. Interesting.
Thanks for the pics and story.
Regards
Alex

For a build to last so long is admirable.

I love those seats!  the back of the bench has a very shiny sheen to it, is this patent vinyl or somthing? or just the camera shot.

Cheers

Ed....must be the camera shot, showing how clean they are!

The whole interior is light grey VELOUR......all the seats, hood lining, and door panels are all plush grey velour, but still designed to match the original styling.....that is, the door panels look like originals but in velour.

There is not a mark on them !     and it still smells new !

Put it this way, it quickly made up my mind on how I'm doing my interior !

Stuff the Vinyl !
