Original wheel rims

4 are FE FC vintage and one is HR

Ken are they the rims with the rivets in them or are they the welded type? Im not sure my car has the welded type and someone in our club said that the 59 FC should have the rivet type? Im definately interested if they are the right ones for my October 59 FC.

I have a couple of each that came with the car when I bought it in the 70s. I understood that both were used randomly as new supplies were added to old stock, and you could end up with either depending on how depleted the stock was at the time. I did think the original 5 would have matched though.

One of my rims is a riveted rim with the large valve hole.
All the others are welded style.

I don't have any info on the change from riveted rims to welded rims, however, the valve hole changed in March 1959.
I maybe expect that the rivets were dropped at the time the valve hole changed but this is just a guess.
All rims have a date on the inside which is the best way to identify them
Happy for people to post details of dates with descriptions of wheels.

So I would think a late 1959 car would probably have welded rims.

So Ken your telling me that the FC was the first to have the yellow indicators, first to have the paper element air filters and first to have the welded wheels? So what new technology did the FB -EK cars get? An electric wiper motor? Its not a lot when you think that they were the ugliest cars Holden ever made! Even though they have so much FC technology in them.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. And who says paper elements and welded rims are an advancement in any case.

That is so true Errol  I wondered how long it would take till I could wind one in. Though owning an EH premier with a hydramatic 2 speed was a backward step. And yes I can find great beauty in fb's and ek's.

3 speed, I stand corrected. seemed like two it was utterly gutless when it dropped into 3rd. Id prefer the manual over the auto. In a modern car I prefer the auto over the manual. 

 
The EK used the "H561" (released May 1961). This was replaced in later EK's by the "H562". The EJ and EH Holdens were equipped with the "H562" and later "HA563" units with revised ratios. Each unit had "H5xx" (where xx = year), as a prefix for the full serial number stamped on the plate attached to the casing. Holden's HydraMatic manual also refers to the transmission as the RHM 240 series.

Hi Guys.

I have factory literature (EH Technical Specs) that list EH rims as either spot-welded, arc-welded or riveted.

The rims pictured are NOT FE-EH rims, they are later pressings, which had a different centre which accepts HT onwards wheel nuts. They are probably ROH trailer rims.

BTW FB/EK didn't introduce reversing lights. FE/FCs had them available as accessories, as did FB/EK, although the FB/EK sedans & wagons had them separated from the amber rear blinker. Reversing lights weren't wired as standard equipment until the EJ for automatic models (now amber again), the EH Premier for manuals & then HR (Sept 66 upgrade) for all models in the range. Separate white reversing lights didn't appear again until Gemini (1975), Commodore (1978) & WB (1980).

Grasping at straws trying to justify my love of FB EKs.

Agree those rim centres look roh. They sometimes have ROH (Rubery Owens Holdings?) stamped in them on one of the outer centre hub cap lugs.

I have a pair of riveted rims on my trailer I believe to be from an EH.

Ok well Im glad I posted a pic of those rims then, lucky me, I managed to get a hold of some lovely FC Holden rims, just recently and they were painted corsair tan too! They will be off to the sandblasters this week.
