Help please,
Will a preslite fb electric wiper motor fit straight into the holes of an fc vacuum wiper motor?

Haydn,

Well, actually . . .

There was an FB I wrecked for parts about 35 years ago, and it was a very late production car.  It had electric wipers.  Surprised me at the time.

Ol Girl 58 is correct

If you have a look in the "Accessory of the week section" Alex covers the

Accessory Nasco Electric Wiper Motor item #16 with image and diagram

these were introduced I think around FB and were ok to fit to FE FC

At a glance you might mistake this for an EK motor but the difference between this and the EK units was that these are operated via the factory cable with a slide switch on the motor, meaning you don't need to fit an EK or later switch to the dash

I have one of these motors on the Ambulance and am looking for another if there are any out there

Sorry, I wasn't trying to create an argument . I simply meant general production . I think you will find that the aftermarket preslite shown in the picture [cable operated] has the later housing [wasn't the early preslite ribbed] that one looks more like the EJ EH motor housing . Another mistake I made was ,not AC Delco ,but Delco Remy . Anyway I think early falcons had the same preslite single speed motors [with different gear housing] and earlier . Anyway I use a Nissan 2 speed [similar to commodore with a longer shaft ] with a windshield washer on the bonnet [tried the original position but wets very poorly on the passenger side] . I also use the original stainless blade backings and remove new blades from the plastic backs ,as here in Qld we can have long periods of hot dry weather and the plastics shape to the curve in the park position . One other tip is to fill the blade mounting cage [I mean  where the little hook shape on the arm goes into that little box shape on the blade] with contact adhesive before replacing the blades to reduce the flop . Gary's (Zulu) picture is of the 100% correct NASCO optional electric wiper motor for FE FC and FB Holden. It was released after the EK was introduced in 1961. There was no other optional electric motor, but over the years many EK motors have made there way into earlier models
Technically the EK was the first model to get electric wipers but I would expect a few Holden managers got new FB's with electric motors to test. So there could be a few around with genuine factory fitment.

Yes , that would make sense because the motor housing is EJ EH not the early EK ribbed one .And in the Premier these were 2 speed ,they will fit the EK armature for a quick conversion .Haydn

I don't think I'd pull to many of these apart to put on an EK motor, since they go for around $400 to $500.  If you can get one.

I can confirm that for you Ken.

I spoke to Marc McInnes on this very subject when I first met him back in the mid-90s.

Marc first worked for GM-H in the mid 50s & by FB days was working in sales & PR. His FB company car in early '61 (well before EK release) was fitted with the NASCO electric wiper set-up & wondered why all the fuss about electric wipers @ the EK release. At the time he thought it was a common normal fitment for an FB.

I was speaking of a wiper conversion I did in the early 80's [before baby boomers sent everything crazy] ,when the 2 speed EH premier motors were easy to get . I was just stating that the housing in the photo is EJ EH Preslite not the earlier EK Preslite . As for early electric conversions ,My Dad bought an FE in the late sixties [one owner] and it had a single speed Delco Remy with a strangely ribbed mounting plate .That was the only modification from original that the car had [until I got it] .Cheers Haydn

Wanted to add my 2 cents worth...........once you fit your EK wiper motor, if you replace the FC wiper knob on the dash with an FC light switch and wire it to the wiper motor you will have multi speed wipers by rotating the switch. It works on the same basis as when you dim the dash lights by rotating the light switch. Works well and looks authentic given it is an FC switch in an FC dash. You can also use the same switch to operate washers if you fit them.
