What's the disadvantage of using acrylic paint to 2pac, I know you have to cut and then buff acyrlic, but we did that with my van? (It's 2k)

If your paying to get paint done, the cost of an acrylic job ( to get a real nice finish ) is a more. It's more labour intensive. Though I reckon done well it does look great on old cars. Dave

2pack soild colours don't need clear coat Anything fancy does 2 pack will go over most acrylic paints And is baked on to give a harder finish
Acrylic is easier to paint and cheaper to buy Requires a clear coat and in most older cars is Oem Depending on age in witch case could have been enamel Can be painted at home (2pack I wouldn't Do for safety resions)
There are some really nice and high quality water based 2pack out now witch is becoming the trend for most shop as solvent based are being banned in some states a nd countries So don't rule that out
Personal I would go 2pack unless doing a complete original build to show and quality If you plane to drive it and not show it where paint type will be judged I would 2pack Just for the longevity and less hassle and maintenance

I think it all comes down to personal preference, 2pack if easier to use and acrylic is mostly what was used on early cars. We had a visit from Mothers last year at our club meeting, one of the first things he asked was who had resprayed their cars, then he asked them who used 2pack and who used acrylic. He said his preference was acrylic because it better reflects the originality of the car. But because 2pack is more common and most panel beaters use it, then that is what is preferred . Jim

I painted my xb in acrylic, the tranny was in getting repairs and the car was left parked under some trees. Sap was all over the car and it left marks. End result was a closed door respray. I was told I couldn't do 2k over acrylic because it would eventually peel off?

Cut and buffed the xb on the weekend, took about 14 hours. Mirror finish, what is the best protection for acrylic?

I only use Meguiars Yellow Wax on my cars - regardless of acrylic or 2 pack - and have been using it since the mid 80's.
Can be hard to get in liquid form (we ship it in from O/S) but you can still get it in paste form.
Absolute best thing for dark colours but works just as well on light tones too - gives a beautiful wet glow to the duco.
I've tried Meguiars NxtGen (both versions) and it's ok but nothing beats Yellow Wax IMHO.

That's the one DJ - in the paste form. I prefer the liquid version - but - that's just me. Either one, it gives really nice wet glow to your duco. One of my old mates from the show scene spotted the BRZ in a car park and immediately said it had to be mine because of the "glow" and it had to be Meguiars Yellow Wax. GM - definitely different. Everything Meguiars has is good but nothing compares to Yellow Wax AFAIC. But then I have only been using it since 1982......... Liquid gold

give it 2 coats of wax if you want to really make it glow - and take your time and enjoy the experience and increased connection you will get with your car
