Hi.. this message is the start of a long journey which will return my rusty old FC ute into a classic piece of history.  I stripped it down about ten years ago after I found it under a tree on a farm (along with an FE ute and sedan as spares).  The trouble is that there is a lot of rust near the corners where the sub frame bolts onto the main cabin are (just near the bottom of the doors.)  My questions are... is this hard cut these areas out and are these segments available for replacement??  I really owe it to this ute and myself to bring it back to life..  Cry :'(Thanks.. Hi Blue
Welcome to the fold. I am not sure what and which sections your talking about ie Subframe or sills. Might I suggest you add a couple of photo's of the area's in question then we can go from there.

Have a look at this link and see how I dealt with the same repairs.

Blue,

This is the most common rust area in an FE/FC, and unfortunately a rather difficult area to get at.  Without knowing exactly where your rust problem is - there are a few different areas in there that might need work - I recommend you have a read of this article here, about repairing/replacing sills on FE and FC models.

If you're lucky you might be able to cannibalise the other vehicles for replacement sections, but it's likely that if they've all been sitting together in the weather, they'll all have the same cancer-spots....

Anyway, hope you find the tech info page some help, and feel free to post questions here.  As Jim mentioned, as a registered user you can post images with your messages, so if you have access to a digital camera, that would definitely assist in the remote diagnosis!

cheers

Wow... thanks guys for the replies.. and so quickly. I didn't realise that  there we so many FC/FE lovers/owners out there.  I will send some pictures of my old ute ASAP. I really hope I can get this project on the road. I guess I will have to ask you for your help along the way (if you don't mind). Speak to you soon and thanks again... Blue

Blue.
One thing you will get to understand in the world of FE's & FC's, is that most of us have already "Been there" & are only to keen to help. I wish I had this sort of help when I started to work on FC's!! It would have been a lot easier (but back then, I thought the ATARI was space age stuff!!).
You will find STACKS of experience & advice from guys on this site.
Listen to "Harko" well when he gives rust & panel advice, he has tackled some "Scary"  looking projects & always seems to get a good result.
also the "Guru's" can tell you almost anything you need to know about the history of these cars.
Goodluck & welcome to the forum.
