this is the one that started the discussion about painting on guage...
i have another one that is the same as this and i have seen others ..maybe there was an exchange service on them...as u can see they are pretty ordinary..if it was just mine i would have believed it to be a backyard job..

Hi Rob

I pulled a couple of gauges apart for parts and they looked like that before hand. The paint was like chalk and what did not fall of the glass just wiped off. All that was left was a faint outline of the lettering.

I think the ppl on here are right with there asumption that they were not hand painted.

The guage in my car looks the same as yours.

Hi guys,
My one owner FC has similar lettering on the original gauge. I have a theory the lettering has swelled & spread across the glass over the years due to dampness. As you know even the lettering on the good ones will wipe off easily so I reckon the original paint was pretty crappy quality wise & might not be waterproof.
My windscreen leaks like all get-out from everywhere and on the odd occassion I've noticed the gauges fog up. Well, sounds reasonable to me anyway.
cheers
Leigh
