Hi Everyone,
This may have been discussed previously, and I don't want to start any arguments, but can someone tell me the difference between HP and non HP blocks of the 179 variety?
Cheers
Marc

Marc, you are now racking the brain. If i remember the blocks have thicker walls so you can bore them out further. They are also made of different material (cant quite remember but i think it was nickle content). They also have forged cranks and not cast cranks. Im sure i may have missed something that others will remember. Good blocks to have in the day. The stamping on the lower area of the block either had 179HP or just HP. I think it was just HP. 186S blocks were the same.

There's no difference in a HP or 179 engine.

I think you are wrong ACE. HP stood for high performance. Brett

Have heard the arguments for and against over this question for a long time, bit like the grey motors and the canadian blocks question
I'm a confirmed grey motor man but I'll be interested if someone can clarify the HP block question

Thanks everyone who replied, I guess the HP stamped motor is just an earlier version of the 179 stamped motor.
