first timer

Hi All
I have just bought a FC wagon that i am going to restore. I am retired and altough i am handy i am not a mechanic, panelbeater or upholsterer. I will ask for help as i go and i hope that i will not bug any of you out there. Any advise and help would greatly be appreaciated. I live in the country so i do not have access to Rare Spares or major stores so i will be buying what i can through the club.
Body FC229-26611-A( i do not know what that tells you about the car)
First question i have is, the car has very little rust a few bubbles in the doors if i was to buy a welder (Mig) what would be the best to buy or reccommended.

mig, you can alot or a little,
tip 1 dont buy from bunnings

my recommendation on price is the Cig 150 MIG there about $5-700 depending on store and sale price, will do everything and more then the home hobby and trade (i used one of thiese for 4 years at work most days) and its a good unit but limited on power setting, but for car the setting are more then enough

if you want so spend a bit more Cig 175i MIG
this is what i have at home i got it on sale for $1050 a total tools (this comes with everything) it does tig, mig and ark(stick)
it came with all tig leads and bottle reg,

what ever you buy make sure it come with reg and leads, as separate they are very expensive
tig gun and lead (80-100 on its own)
bottle reg 80-100+

yes you can get gasless but i dont recomend it,

Sounds like you are in the same position that most of us are/were in.....some great ideas, but lots of questions. Well you have come to the right place for answers.

Hey how good is this,so quick. I feel at home already. I live in Grenfell NSW. Thanks for the advice on MIG looks like cig 150. Also thanks for tips given. Hope to get to know you duys more. Working myself through this site and how to find things and use it. Only pick the car up on sat, has been locked up in a country shed for the last 33years. Complete, emptied the tank changed the oil, cleaned out the carbie added fuel and battery and it started straight away AMAZING, one owner car, 33,000 miles (not sure but son thinks once around clock). Will keep in touch

Welcome. We are all newbies at some point. And I still am!
The good thing is the people and the knowledge on this forum.

Welcome to the forum
I also have a 175i and its sensational. It was a round the 1000 bucks but well worth it and easy to use.
I did a stint in West Wyalong back in the early 90's. Interesting times!!!
I had my yellow FC then. There used to be a guy there who also worked at the hospital who did up old yank tanks.
Keep asking questions that way we all learn!!
