single colour FC specials

After some prompting I have done some research on whether more single colour FC's were made in 1958 than in 1959

GMH code 4 is Black - the ratio is 10 1958 and 10 1959 cars
GMH code 169 is Granite grey - all cars I have recorded are 1959 models with the latest one being a mid 1959 car
GMH code 173 is India Ivory - 8 1958 cars and 5 1959 models - the latest is a mid 59 vehicle
GMH code 194 is Skyline Blue - the ratio is 3 1958 and 3 1959 cars the latest is a very late 1959 model
GMH code 195 is Crystal Blue - the ratio is 4 1958 and 1 1959 cars the latest is a late 1959 model
GMH code 196 is Ice Green - the ratio is 1 1958 and 2 1959 cars the latest is a very late 1959 model
GMH code 197 is Olinda Green - all cars are 1958 models
GMH code 199 is Cambridge Blue - all cars are 1958 models
GMH code 350 is Hialeagh Green - the ratio is 2 1958 and 1 1959 cars
GMH code 351 is Adobe Beige - the ratio is 3 1958 and 4 1959 cars
GMH code 352 is Cape Ivory - all cars are 1958 models
GMH code 353 is Duchess Green - all cars are 1959 models
GMH code 355 is Ascot Grey - the ratio is 6 1958 and 4 1959 cars

It does turn out that there were far more single colour specials made in 1958 than in 1959 especially when you consider that there were only 8 months of 1958 production compared to 12 months of 1959 production.
The only exceptions are Duchess Green, Granite Grey and Adobe Beige. Duchess Green and Granite Grey are 1959 colours so that would explain these but Adobe Beige is a colour which started in 1958 so this one is unique.
As far as single batch runs are concerned the cars seem to come from all various times of production without any real concentration of body numbers.
GMH used a feedback system from dealerships that meant that low orders resulted in the dropping of certain colours, or their replacement with a different colour, so it is probably likely that the buying public interest waned for single colour cars resulting in a slowing of production of that type of vehicle.

Ken, For example the single tone skyline blue was there only three of these made in 1958 as mine would be one of them.

Ken, I have a 1958 special adobe beige single colour fc. It has a single stainless mould extending from the standard body mould on the rear door to the extremity of the rear quarter about level with the tail light and appears to be olinda green. I haven't seen any other fc's the same as mine. Someone told me that dealers had issues selling single colour fc's so the mould and the colour was added in an attempt to lure buyers. Do you or any of the forum members know the history of what I have mentioned.  If i can work out how I will post photos.
My fc has a dealer sticker on the glovebox lid -T Williamson & Son Oakliegh
Numbers are 819584M engine L505581. First registered 27/11/58 GXN 194 by owner Mrs Long of Hughesdale Vic.  rego expired 2/12/85 and fc was re registered to Mackinlay Motors Holden Holbrook NSW and  has been mine for the past 4 years. The fc has 50500 genuine miles on the clock and she is immaculate. Sadly took her out on the weekend and the original windscreens shattered when hit by a stone.
I have removed the windscreens trim and rubber and delighted to see metal is as good as it was when it left the factory.

Single colour specials as discussed, were starting to lose favour by 1959 so it was common for dealers to tart up cars for added sale prospect
The pictured car was a one colour duchess green car which had the stripe added by the dealership with forester green insert. I added the upper Pinecrest green to make it more to my liking. The tilli stripes were quite common in the day but like all things are a little rare now.

The stripes are pretty rare - I have records of about 10 cars/wagons with this stripe kit on.
