Hello all out there in FE-FC land. South East Street Machines is running its 25th consecutive Indoor Show'n Shine in Mount Gambier on the long weekend of October 2003. This is a top show and won Street Machine Magazine's inaugeral National Top Street Machine Show back in 1994.
This year being our 25th Show we are attempting to get Alan Hales Black 350 V8 powered FC back over as it was the winner of Top Street Machine at the very first show.
It would be nice if we could get a few FE-FC's to show alongside and support him, I for one would be  very happy to see a few more older cars, preferably Holdens at the show as the trend appears to be slowly moving towards Fantastic Plastic cars and big stereos Cry.
So if your interested let me know and I will send entry forms out. Numbers are strictly limited to 85 for indoor entries on first to pay first served basis.

Hi there!!!   We in the SA club have made the trip to the Mount a couple times (last year and 2 years prior to then) and have had a great time.  I must admit that  last year's show was disappointing (as mentioned) due to the "plastic not classic" show cars.  Good grief Shocked Shocked, how many Commodores were there?Huh  Yes it would be good to have more of the classic cars in this ever growing event (though why they can't get a bigger venue is beyond me?).  Hang on, that's right, the Mount is notorious for having rotten weather when you least expect it!!!  Anyway the our club will probably instill this  October weekend into its next calendar year.

Yes you are right there was way too much Plastic there last year, but unfortunately they are usually the first to enter and pay up so despite personal preferences we can't refuse them. Our new President is an old car buff and she is trying very hard to get more of the older vehicles back in to the show, as I am. I think My FC was the oldest Holden there last year.
For this years show, the original winner of the first show is bringing the same car back, still basically as it was, a black FC with twin tunnel ram on a 350 Chev, owned by Alan Hale FC-225 on this site. We are also chasing up as many pre 1970 cars as possible so hopefully there will be less plastic.
I certainly hope a few of your members can enter, I will email you forms when they are available.

Hi Jockster,  What about putting a limited year on the entry forms, eg: 1969 is the latest year to be entered?? And if there are so many later cars that want to enter (say 1970 onwards), hold another show either the same weekend (another venue) or later in the year (Aust day next year falls on a Monday; another long weekend!!).    Cheers Kathleen

Hoooeee, that would open up a hornet's nest, I don't really like the plastic stuff or the Common-doors, but there's no need to segregate like that.

As long as it's got 4 wheels and the owners are proud of it, does it matter what it is. Who knows, maybe when they become disillusioned with the whole plastic Jap-Toy thing they will buy a full-metal car and help preserve a bit of Aussie history.

Another thing, 1969? That would rule out a bunch of
Torana owners and a few tough F$%#s. I have heard 1985 has been suggested as a cut-off (when plastic replaced chrome bumpers?)

 Kathleen,your idea of a cut-off date has been dicussed at various club meetings for some years, but because there is no definative cut-off date for a Street Machine, (unlike Street Rod Federation Rules which spell out clearly what is a Street Rod, a Custom and a Custom Classic and what is not) it is very hard to get concensus to limit what year of vehicle can and cannot enter.
I have an open mind on the subject to a degree, because when I originally started the club back in 1977 my Street Machine was a 1974 Monaro 2 door GTS, which was only a 3 year old car (admittedly it was running a 465 BHP Stroked engine, big wheels custom paint etc), but my reason for starting the club at that time was because the Street Rod Federation (of which I was and still am a member) would not allow late model cars, which caused the birth of Street Machining Australia Wide and damn near killed Street Rodding for a few years as members deserted in large numbers.

Going on this criteria and given the popularity of Turbo buzz boxes with young people, I think we have to include some of them (particularly modified ones) and hope that the youngsters pick up an appreciation of the older cars  through their initial involvement with a fantastic plastic.
Thats only my opinion though.

Hey Jockster,
The Street Machine Association of SA Newsletter (The Distributor, guess who's the editor?) should be going out next week with the entry forms for the SESM Mt Gambier show, just to let you know.

We are also offering a $5 membership discount to members of affiliated clubs, do you know if the SESM has 6 members who are also members of SMASA?

Is Alan Hales FC going to be there?
