They certainly tied them on pretty well, although the wagon looks to be on a bit of an odd angle - maybe it came loose.

Very interesting photo though, thanks for posting

Interesting photo.

I have seen other photos of painted bodies without the front clip outside Woodville.

Does this mean that bodies shipped to assembly plants including Elizabeth, Acacia Ridge and Perth were shipped painted to the plants? If so, were the guards and bonnets shipped with the car painted or were they paint matched at the plant?

Absolutely Johns.  All vehicles made at a different plant to where they were assembled were shipped in this way and the front sheet metal was matched & painted later.

I remember Holdens being carted on trains that way right through to the mid 70s. I lived in Horsham Vic and often had to wait for trains at the crossing on way to school.
