Hi,

I am looking for an FC that was sold in March or April 1982 and am wondering what happened to it if anyone knows for sure. It was Skyline Blue  with Fountain Blue rear 1/4's (I dont know whether this is called Fountain Blue over Skyline Blue or Vice Versa?) It had been damaged in the RHR 1/4 panel quite severely, with the spring hanger being torn from the subframe. The thing that made this car stand out was that it was a one owner car, the breather, sideplate and rocker cover were all chromed, the front over riders had been drilled on the top and at one stage had driving lights fitted. I would assume that it had been wrecked for parts but I wam just wondering if anyone knows for sure. The registration label was still on the 1/4 window and the ACT rego number was 520

Mate,

The people most likely to know the answer to this are all on the road to the Nats at present.  When they get back next week you might get an answer.  GP in particular may know.  I was in Canberra then and had my FE on the road, but I don't recall the car you mention.  The ACT club turns 21 in April, so the old records would only go back to 1987.  It will be someone with knowledge of the car that you need.  Good luck.

Cheers

Hi Smithy,

The car was owned from new by my maternal grandparents. When a car collided with the rear of the FC it was written off, and as it was not insured, the insurance company for the other car paid my grandparents out but did not want the wreck. My grandparents sold the car to me for the pincely sum of $50.00.

It was my plan to have the car repaired, but my father didn't think that anything would become of it and sold it while I was at work. I arrived home and saw immediately that the FC was missing, Dad was only too happy to tell me that he had "done real good" and doubled my money, selling it for $100.00

It ultimately created one of those family feuds that took  ages to settle and I have never really forgiven him for it.

Hi Smithy,

It's certainly worth a look, do you remember how much damage had been done to this particular car? My grandparents FC had been hit in the RHR 1/4 panel and when the panel was pushed in the car collided with the rear wheel bending the spring forward and tearing the spring shackle from the sub frame. It didn't bend the dif housiing because it still drove OK, other than crabbing a bit because of the bent spring.
It wasn't hit from behind, the boot, tailight etc weren't marked, didn't even break the special badge on the side

aw jeez it was a few years ago as i said, im even having trouble remembering where it was near Googong, i do know that it was on the right hand side of the road just near the turn off to the dam, it could not be seen from the road, cant say about the spring hanger as the car was sitting flat on the ground. there really wasnt much left of it at all mate it had been pretty well gutted. i'll have a sleep on it and see if i can picture it again.
I assume that the car was in canberra?

Ken, as Dave said, wer'e at Bendigo at present, when I 1st joined the club in 1988 a 2tone blue car was being wrecked. I can't recall it having any damage butit was VERY rusty. Of course it is now long gone, I duobt very much whether any details would have been kept.

Hi Colin,
The car that I am looking for was in pristine condition with absolutely no rust whatsoever. It would be nearly impossible to become very rusty in 6 years unless stored somewhere near the coast exposed to the elements. Unfortunately I dont have any pictures to display to give people a better idea as to what the car was like prior to the accident. I have seen photo's on the site, Of an FC I think historic rego (ACT) 546 that was at Phillip Island. The cars would be very similiar in condition when it was involved in the accident.

Hi Smithy,

I am just wondering what happened to it, maybe somebody knew and I couldn't think of a better place to ask, just in case anyone remembered. I know by asking, people will try to help and the chance of being
information about the wrong car is extremely likely, but I accept this.

To give you an idea how much this particular car was looked after it developed a leak from the gearbox extension housing oil seal after a trip to Sydney. I was an apprentice mechanic at the time, and replaced the oil seal. The oil was cleaned off the underside of the car, and where the oil had leaked onto the exhaust, it was scrubbed clean with a scourer until such time as there was no evidence of there ever having been a leak. The underneath was as clean as the rest of the car.

Regards
Keith

Hi Keith,
The car you've seen the photo of at Phillip island (Rego no. 546) is my car, which I bought off the original owners back in 1995.

I am the founding President of the ACT Club, but unfortunately have no recollection of the car you've described.....it sounds like it was really worth saving.

Cheers,

Graham

Hi Graham,

I believe the car was worth saving, I was quoted $1200.00 to repair the damage, so long as I could find a replacement 1/4 panel. I had a 1/4 cut from another car and had just about got the money together when Dad sold it. My grandparents had been offered $2500.00 for the car only a few months before by someone who had pulled them over.

I had hoped that someone had saved it.
